Orc Settlement [59x36]

Welcome back Fellow Darkish!

As you trudge along a dusty trail, a sinister mix of guttural grunts and the pounding of war drums intermingles with the crackle of burning embers. Before you unfolds an orc encampment—a chaotic labyrinth of tents constructed from wood and bones, their blood-red fabric rippling in the warm, dusty wind.

For this map we have a special treat: the return of an artist we’re always thrilled to collaborate with – James RPG Art.

James RPG Art creates animated scenes that help players visualize environments and infuse your games with immersive tone. With over 300 scenes from official WotC adventures and countless unique locales inspired by D&D, he treats his patrons to four brand-new locations every month.

James has captured the wild, dangerous atmosphere of the Orc Settlement perfectly, and we’re sure you’ll love introducing this environment to your players in such a striking way!

MAP DESCRIPTION:

Orc Settlement is a sprawling orc stronghold—a collection of tents of various sizes encircled by rugged rock and stout palisades.

The camp appears vast and well-organized. There’s no shortage of food, supplies, and weaponry, with gear and armaments scattered throughout to support a stable settlement. It might not be a village in the traditional sense, but it’s clear these orcs are prepared to stay if they choose. A high palisade, built from massive logs expertly joined together, stands as a formidable barrier against intruders.

The entrance—a narrow gap between the fence and the rock—is heavily guarded. Inside, the camp is simple, raw, and teeming with boisterous orcs.

To the right lies the stables, sheltering the mighty beasts used as war mounts. Judging by the scattered bones, these creatures are likely formidable carnivores.

Various tents and shelters denote the purpose and rank of their occupants. Armories, supply depots, and officers’ quarters are intermingled with the soldiers’ tents, occupying the bulk of the camp’s structures.

High on the hill, one structure stands out—a gigantic, foreboding tent that dominates the scene.

Inside, the orc chieftain issues orders and weaves the schemes that drive the entire group. Adjacent to this main tent is the shaman (or village elder), a figure of immense importance. Amid stretched hides, herbs, spices, and mysterious ingredients, the shaman concocts remedies to heal allies or invokes the favor of his deities.

Beneath the hill lies the “kitchen,” where prey is slaughtered and meals prepared, later enjoyed by soldiers around numerous open fires. The deep, yet upbeat, rhythm of drums—echoing from makeshift benches fashioned from hefty logs—accompanies the camp’s feasts and nightly gatherings.

Another large tent houses the infirmary, where wounded or ailing orcs are tended to and given a place to rest.

Scattered throughout the camp are several cages intended for prisoners—human and otherwise—often filled with hostages, captured prey, or creatures the tribe has deemed unworthy of immediate consumption for reasons known only to them.

Sneaking in uninvited and avoiding an impromptu stay in one of these cages might prove to be quite the challenge.

Just joined Darkest Maps as result of collab (longtime supporter) - ability to print at home is AMAZING!!! For those using for tabletop, it breaks maps into sections so you can put together as a large playmat. Genius!!

I'm subscribed to both of you, so always great to see collaborations
