MAP DESCRIPTION:

The waves crash against the rocks, driven by powerful currents, and the smell of the sea fills your nostrils, carried by the strong wind.

At the center of the cliff, at its highest point, an ancient altar overlooks the sea.

The rusty chains clearly indicate the kind of rituals that took place on that stone slab…

In the boiling water, an enormous and monstrous Kraken emerges, ready to devour the sacrifice and perhaps obey the horrid orders of those who summoned it.

NOTES

• Kraken Altar offers an absolutely epic battle with a massive creature and potentially with those who summoned it.

• The Kraken’s behavior can greatly vary the difficulty of the encounter. Will it attack directly or only to protect its summoners? Will defeating the summoners or saving the sacrifice be enough to send it back, or will you need to inflict serious damage on it?

• The map versions allow for an interesting timed encounter, where you must prevent the Kraken from being summoned and save the sacrifice.

• Resisting the terror in the face of this Lovecraftian horror is no small feat. We recommend using short-term Madness mechanics to see how the adventurers react to the Kraken rising from the water just a few meters away.

• The Kraken isn’t the only thing that can be summoned. Use the map without the monster to play against any adversary you deem fit. The Monster Manual is always a great ally to surprise your party.

We can already imagine the party trying to save that NPC they’ve grown so attached to from becoming Kraken food, or preventing it from destroying that port village (which we’ll be creating very, very soon, so stay tuned) where they were welcomed so warmly.
