For 5E, the Cloistered Cleric might work. Enhanced education, skills, and (for the setting) spellcasting at the cost of the standard Cleric's armor and proficiency. They actually have to invest training and feats to get access to armor and anything but the most simple weapons.

Evan

I could definitely see some of the Missionary Sisters taking on a more martial arts Monkish role... "Restful Palm Technique" "Iron Shield Stance" "Oak Breaking Strike" "100 Palm Admonition"

Joseph Callaway

My first thought is martial arts monks, akin to the shaolin monks in the context of D&D but otherwise as a catholic raised individual, I think catholic monks like Francis.

Steve Hardy

First impression? That would depend on the culture. Lots of different "monks" out there. Haven't played DnD for a while, so I don't know exactly where they would fit.

Henry Walker

In a dnd aspect or in general? I feel like for dnd it's a guidelines thing for their specific motivations and thoughts, with a general disdain for violence, however the getting is good when it is required citing scripture.

Seabag

they would be all fighters🤣

Ironlily

Makes me more curious about the religious aspects of their lives

Chase Sutter

I would say the hospitalier, I know that's spelled wrong, would be paladins since they are knights and healers...the rank and file sisters I would call fighters for sure

The Mailman

I think more of the Catholic monks. There are three well known. Benedictines, Jesuits and Franciscans. Each has a different colored robs.

Sean McKinzie

If I were to add the Ordo to a DnD campaign, I would consider the general sisters as ‘fighters’ with possibly making the invested knights as paladins, with magic allowed due to the general setting.

Donovan "Ravenhull"

I played a character who was technically a fighter, but my whole background was based around being a monk, brewing and illuminating manuscripts in her down time

Silent_Goddess

In general, the Asian trope of an ancient martial art, no armor, extremely regimented lifestyle. But hearing about how the Knights Templar were originally organized there are more similarities than differences between medieval Europe warrior monks and Asian sohei

Hiei69

Gotta appreciate your roots 😤

Knightsy

Yeah, DnD monks are more kung-fu than Benedictine. Always wanted to do one that was somehow a mix.

Donovan "Ravenhull"

In D&D I think of someone like Iron Fist or Aang, but the sisters are definitely good contenders!

Tyler Hobbs

Pseudo kung fu and some sort of "Chi" mechanic.

WuYixiang

Projecting ki I guess

DRvi

After reading I33 all I can think about is a sword and buckler, but before that a bo staff and incense for sure

Sam Duffy

Punch

Indiana Bones in the Kingdom of the Cystal Cranium

Punching and kicking
