The Desert Oasis

Hi everyone, I've been trying something new! What do you think?

I've always been an artist who leans completely on his line art, and I wanted to exercise this new style in order to round out my skills. I have a lot of room for improvement when it comes to values and color harmony (among other things) and this line-free style demands a lot of thought in those areas. It was a fun exercise, and I think I may return to fairly often if it's received well!

This was all done start-to-finish on one layer, so unfortunately there's no map variant this week. I intend to keep the different color zones separate next time though. There's also no line-only version, for obvious reasons. :V

Thanks to all of you, this oasis is released under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license

Seems hard to use in a DnD setting, but I like the image for itself. Thanks for sharing it with us!

I like this a lot. I great to see something different and something that stands out in the genre

I love the colors, but I miss the lines! I've been looking forward to some desert maps, though, so I know I'll use it.

Looks good, but it's not as concise as your earlier work. I'll try to use it in an upcoming game.

Dee Kay

It's rather abstract. It looks nice but it won't be useful as a battle mat.

Like the others I encourage experimenting and developing/improving skills, however this style of art while interesting lacks the detail I personally look for in my battlemaps and I wouldn't be able to use this for most of my games.

Very cool. Keep trying new things!

Neale Genereux

As an image I actually really like it. It's difficult to balance your art and the style people are used to. I dig it, keep going.

I'll just draw lines over it for consistency with your other maps so it fits stylistically. :)

I like it and could see using it for a more TotM experience. Unfortunately I think my current players would miss the detail.

Bernard Howell

I think it's very important to experiment without lines, and improving your coloring skills can only benefit us! I look forward to seeing how this translates to your other styles.

This style doesn't really do it for me, but that's ok. I respect your creativity. Keep up the good work :)
