Payment Scheme Changes! Please Review Your Pledge ❤

Hi again everyone. Thank you for your support, reassurance, and advice these past hours! This post is following up on my earlier New Patreon Fees and Popular Changes one, so please see that if you are out of the loop.

In summary, Patreon's new fee scheme lumps an unforgivable 38% extra on the $1 pledge tier, which so happens to make up over 80% of 2-Minute Table Top's generous crowd. In response, I've had to restructure things on Patreon to account for the new fees.

Pledges to me are now by the month, and not per-creation as it was before. As a consequence, I would implore you all to review the new rewards and choose a new pledge level!

The payment scheme change means that all of your per-creation pledges are now monthly pledges of the same amount, and so my funding level has dropped from ~$1900/mo to $682/mo. Scary, I know! But I hope that enough of you will stick around for us to bounce back.

I have tried to make the transition a smooth one, and have created a new $4/mo tier for the old $1/map Patrons, and a $8/mo for the $2/map Patrons. The main reason behind this is to minimise the fees;

Thank you to all who band with me through this transition. I believe that we can bounce back from this, and I still hope to quit my secondary job in the new year and be a full-time creator!

I'll make edits to this post and use the below section as a sort of F.A.Q. so please leave your questions and feedback in the comments.

ARE YOU COMMITTED NOW TO 4 MAPS A MONTH?

Yeps! I'm working on creating a surplus of maps so that I can make the quota even if I'm on holiday or short on time.

ARE YOU LOOKING AT ALTERNATIVES TO PATREON?

Yes I am, but I'm hesitant to change platform because I know that Patreon's familiar brand convinces a lot of people to trust them with their money. I'm sure that there will always be a crowd here large enough to keep the campaign running.

I'll be monitoring how these changes effect us. If these fee changes turn out to be a mortal wound, then I will certainly find an alternative in a hurry, but for now I will see how things pan out.

I'd at least like an on-site way to "pledge" through a PayPal subscription, completely separated from Patreon, as I know this is relatively easy to set up. I think it would be preferable to Patreon in the long run too, offering lower fees and more control, only lacking the handy brand recognition Patreon has...

They have acknowledged that that's an inconvenient system and decided against it, hallelujah! I'm sorry to give you whiplash, but (once I have finished flicking my switch back) you'll need to change back yet again to $1/map.

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

It seems they have now! Thank you chiickadee. :)

Hey man- I'm really sorry about all the new changes. I'll definitely keep supportin' ya and up my pledge a little bit while I'm at it. Here's hoping patreon pulls their head out of the sand soon!

I was on the 1$/map and somehow got placed in the 1$/month. I've now switched to the 4$/month. Patreon says this will be billed at the 1st. If that is the case, you'll see no interruption from me. But if the new anniversary charging somehow starts charging me in the middle of the month, I'll have to cancel and come back at the next 1st. Having the charges spread throughout the month is super inconvenient :) More than the fee change, the fact that all charges will now be individual, rather than gathered in one, is what really annoys me.

Thanks Shane, I'm glad to have you here still!

Unfortunately, I have to stick to $1/month, but I'm happy to support you without any extra rewards. You're doing a great job, and it's awesome to see your style improve and evolve. Keep up the good work!

Seliel the Shaper

I appreciate it, Dyer! I have maps to make for most of this week, but I intend to spend the rest working towards a better option for small pledges.

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

I will continue to support you to the best of my availability, which right now, unfortunately means $1/month. Im fine with the extra fee, because i want to support you, but if you move over to something like paypal, i will certainly follow you there. (I too have to restructure and look into alternatives. Luckily for me, i dont have quite as many people as you to figure it out xD)

Thanks. After seeing all the supportive comments here I'm feeling pretty positive! We'll just have some catching up to do.

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

Unfortunately it's either-or, so I've chosen the payment scheme that incurs the least fees.

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

I agree Paul. I've had to drop a lot of my own pledges, and pick and choose much more. I hope that my price breakdown is helpful.

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

I think this is a great solution to the issue! As soon as I saw the post from Patreon, I knew this would effect patreons with low $ tiers very badly. My patreon reward tiers are higher, so I won't be effected negatively, but I'd rather the site just stayed the same, instead of bucking the creators with lower reward tiers... Never the less, I think this is a brilliant and reasonable solution, and I look forward to seeing how things go, moving forward! Don't lose heart! Your maps are stunning, and are such a wonderful contribution to the RP society! I'd gladly pay much more for what you offer, here, and I bet many would agree. Anyways, best of luck to you, as we all watch to see how this new patron fee effects the site (and it's creators), in the months to come!

I actually prefer the monthly pledge because I know exactly what I'm paying each month. The reason I've had to change though sucks. I support a number of content creators at $1 a month, everyone getting a little. I've had to change that and can now support a smaller number of creators. I also hate that the fees are on top of the pledge. The price I see is the price I want to pay, even if that is a little higher. Maybe these changes are the 'in' Patreon's competitors need?

Paul Kingtiger

Why not have both? Let those of us who want to do per map do per map.

Sean Connelly

I haven't been in direct communication with any other per-creation creators, but I have seen others making similar changes. We're all still going to take a hit of unsubscriptions, but we'll pull through.

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

Thanks Norman, I'm grateful for however you choose to lend your support. I hope to create an option on my website that will act similarly to Patreon but only involve myself and PayPal, which should be much more stable an arrangement. I believe you can follow me on Patreon without making a pledge? Otherwise, perhaps you have another social media outlet?

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

Also, the $4 per month instead of $1 per reward makes a ton of sense and I think is a great work-around. Have you suggested it to the other creators that you follow that have a similiar pledge approach as you?

Shardrealms

The benefits of Patreon outway the costs. Also, it seems like a lot of creators are upset about this change, and so I'd be surprised if Patreon keeps it if the dust truly never settles.

Shardrealms

Apparently you send the message with return on mobile... I would like to stay but since this has no other impact for me than you I'm more inclined to cancel my subscription and just tip you 25$ on your website once to vote with my wallet and disapprove of patreon. I have only 3 concerns, 1.this is in no way predictable for you and a saver income is better for planning 2. I fear i'll miss important updates since I'm not following you anywhere else and 3.since it's more effort I may forget to do this again at a later date.

Norman Obst

Thank you for your open communication. I'm only on patreon to support you and here because I could cap the monthly expenses of the 1$/prop option. I liked that this gives you motivation and a direct benefit after doing the work. You were able to push more or less out and it would change your income.
