Vase Dodecahedron

Break out the glue!  I don't often work with assemblies that need adhesives, but that's what we have here - and it's vase mode!  Yep, twelve vase mode components that get glued together to form a dodecahedron!

Now, the dodecahedron part is familiar ground by this point, and doesn't require a lot of problem solving.  However, see those notch things on the sides?  Those took a bit of puzzling out.  See, the idea of those is to align adjacent sides properly while they're being glued, so they need to mesh into each other.  However, that means one part sticking inwards and another outwards, at the same angle, without breaching the absolute angle restrictions that let a vase mode print remain reliably printable. 

So, print 12 of these parts, find yourself some appropriate glue, and get assembling!

You've probably noticed there are two different styles of dodecahedron here.  One is cleverly named "Flat" and the other is "Projected", but you get the idea from the photos, I'm sure.  There's also a third one in the dropbox directory that I haven't posted photos of there...

Printing Tips

These are vase mode prints!  So, set your slicer accordingly.  All the angles are neat and sensible for vase mode, and intended for a 0.4mm nozzle.   The parts print base-down like so:

Print Dimensions

The flat pieces occupy 98x103mm on the print bed, and are 30mm tall.  The projected version occupies 94x99mm and is 50mm tall.

Further Thoughts

This was an entertaining departure from the usual polyhedral assemblies.  Putting something like this together with actual glue made this whole thing feel more like some kind of craft project than a 3D printing one!
