And we thought the Hell Pincer was bad. The homebrew that Midge thought up and Livie drew in vivid horror was truly like something out of a nightmare.
From the first 'FRIENDS...' we knew we were in trouble.
A lot of DND monster encounters can feel a little bit like you are just of to kill a random creature for loot or experience but this one, being teased from the end of episode 1 and seemingly so linked to the boys curses was so engaging not to mention the Anti-Poe.

In Episode 3 we met two new members of staff. The sinister Mr Moley and the delightful Mr Hebden. This two creations of our wonderful DM Midge being introduced in the same episode was fantastic. Both of these characters felt exactly what it was like to have a good teacher and bad teacher at school, and what a profound impact each can have on you as a child.
The really cool thing is that even though they had very different approaches to teaching they both loved their subject.

One of the things that inspired the NPC curses of the St Churnley's boys was the long and fascinating list of spells you can cast in Dungeons & Dragons. Casting spells in the tabletop game can yield some really fun changes in combat or even social encounters, with lots of scope for visceral and visual descriptions of what happens. Straight from the twisted mind of Grandmaster Flash (Tom Midgley). The Hell-Pincer is a 'Homebrewed*' monster lucking in the depths of The Plagueround. Realised in art fantastically by @Livie.Graphics.
*Homebrewed - To Homebrew something is a DnD term, meaning creating something for your campaign that is not in the official DnD books. SORRY FOR THE DELAY - POSTING FROM BARCELONA PROVED TRICKY
These were a god send. We needed to design something that we could look at quickly and know what we were rolling and what we could do. They lovingly became known as the 'Fisher Price' sheets or 'Baby's first DnD character'.
But if you ever want to play DnD for the first time consider using something similar for your early games at low levels.
