She didn’t use him simply to get back at Marty. She used him to get RID of Marty. It would be an endless cycle of “forgiveness” otherwise. He cheats, she leaves, he begs to come back, she forgives him, he cheats, etc. If SHE cheats, he won’t beg to come back anymore. And as she mentioned she couldn’t go with a stranger…not only would it be too hard for her, but it likely wouldn’t be enough for Marty to leave.

Love everything you said. In addition to nailing the coffin shot. When he called her a whore, I love that her response was "you don't know the half of it"🔥🔥😭😭🤣🤣

I’m catching up on your reaction 😂 about to watch the last ones — but I just had to comment on this one after you watched her put Marty in his place lol
I absolutely hate that she felt she had to use, seduce, and assault Rust to get her lick back at Marty — instead of just leaving him. However, I can 110% get into her headspace and understand it.
The more I rewatch the show, I truly believe she realized at the bar she couldn’t physically sleep with just anyone — she needed it to be someone she trusted. Which I think led her to the realization that Rust would be the perfect storm to get Marty gone.
She knew it would be hard to seduce him, so she played drunk when she got there, and you see her sober up quickly after the act. She hated that she had to use him, but was grateful.
I think subconsciously she knew that he would forgive her for it, because he knew, at the end of the day, if he didn’t want it, he wouldn’t have done it. So.
I loved that she did get the jab in with the “haven’t been f**ked like that since before the girls,” because she wanted to really nail that coffin shut. 😂😂

The focus on the brake light at the end is one of my favorite moments of the show. Marty shattered it when Rust shoved him into it during their fight. Rust had over a decade to fix it, but instead he kept it broken like a reminder. It’s a great insight into present day Rust’s mental state, but I always thought it was also a callback to his lines in the interview about how he doesn’t believe in closure - and that nothing is truly solved.

It really is peak HBO. This season is like a movie you'll never forget. Every beat of the story is rewatchable. The dynamic between Marty and Rust is so so summed up by the quiet birds they flipped each other.

When Marty said "I love you" to Maggie and she responded with "thank you"... Marty should have known he was in serious trouble.

Frank, I appreciated your take on Maggie’s odd choice of words before she pounced on Rust. “What are you doing here?” I hadn’t really thought about it but yes, I think she had created a scenario in her head that was inspired by a fantasy, one where Rust arrives at her house and seduces her. Just saying the words helped her cope with how she was about to violate him.
