Idk, Tyreese legit started beating up on all of them and Rick just fought back, albeit going too far. And to be fair, not that it’s right to compare grief, but Tyreese went crazy and violent after losing Karen who he knew for a matter of months while Rick went crazy after losing his wife who he’s known for years, yet he never raised a fist toward anyone in his group. 🤷♂️ I know it’s just a matter of opinion, but totally different circumstances IMO.

Late and brief comment, but just gotta throw it out there that I felt EXACTLY like you did about the Carol situation when I watched it the first time, Frank. I even remember literally saying out loud to the people I was watching it with that I was so torn! That and I kept saying, “I hate this! I hate this!” 😆😭

45:55 hell no it isn’t! You remember the borde at the end of season 2?
Man I wrote such a long, thought-out comment about Carol, but went into Safari real quick to make sure I had a fact right, and when I went back to Patreon, the app restarted :’(
My point was mainly that, while I understand Carol’s thought process, the prison is extremely large, and killing them wouldn’t do anything a quarantine wouldn’t do, and then I questioned again why Rick brought everyone to the prison instead of bringing his group to Woodbury, where they had hot running water. But I guess that’s the irony of this season: Rick picked the prison because he thought he could better fortify it than he could Woodbury from walkers. But the walkers weren’t the danger this season, the prison is. And anyone who knows anything about our FUCKED UP EVIL justice system knows those places spread airborne diseases like crazy. The truth of how bad Covid was for prisoners, I hope, will one day be told. But I digress: even rhough I loathe the second half of this season, I think the first half is so ingenious for bringing in a new threat that many of us wouldn’t have considered, especially pre-Covid.

A lot of ding ding ding in here for me about why Carol did what she did, especially the new vs established family divide, and her trauma that has manifested in fear that she doesn't want to admit is there and thinks she has conquered, but has really bottled it up and thinks she can shove it down whenever it comes back up. If only they had a good therapist in the prison to help her process her trauma... in fact I think a lot of characters would be doing a lot better off with some sessions!

I love reading everyone's take on this show and its characters, and how Frank encourages our "essays"- it's so nice to be in the company of others who also write long-ass comments!! So during these episodes, I was really focused in on the theme of how to deal with emotions/feelings in this high-stakes world of TWD. From Beth and Maggie's conversations, and how "you don't get to get upset" may sound good in theory but is impossible, as Beth reiterates this as she is literally starting to cry. Even more intriguing are Carol's lessons and feedback on emotions she imparts to Lizzie- that there is no room in this world for fear, and that Lizzie's hesitancy to follow through with stabbing her father was indicative of her weakness and fear, and needs to be resolved if she's going to survive. I will always argue that no particular feeling/emotion in the human spectrum can be removed from our experience, we can't just NOT be upset or fearful in situations in which they are natural and appropriate reactions to what we're dealing with. All we can do if we attempt to remove emotions is just wind up developing more clever and persistent ways to push down, suppress and deny our emotions. But eventually, inevitably, our emotions will show themselves, usually by coming out "sideways"- in any number of unconscious behaviors or coping mechanisms or explosive or rash acts, etc. This all leads me to a theory on Carol's motivation to murder Karen and (David?): I think Carol has been pushing down her own fear, and convincing herself that she is no longer afraid, but is just pragmatic, strong and focused on survival. I think when Carol reached the understanding that this sickness could be deadly, it TERRIFIED her, for herself, the whole community, the girls she is now tasked with raising. While some people will freeze and NOT act from fear/terror (Lizzie with the knife over her father), others will be overcome by their fear such that they are compelled to act, to make rash, imprudent decisions (like taking a decision into their own hands instead of discussing with a committee). I think Carol is still detached from her fear and doesn't realize that's what galvanized her to act. I also think, as others mentioned, she may have found it more palatable to do so because of the "original family" vs "newer members" divide, not only in the fact that the victims were "newer members", but also in her assumption that she would be absolved of her act, and Rick would let it slide because she is "original family" (when she said, "Rick...it's me").

My main thinking with carol is this, if it was Herschel and Glenn that were the first ones sick, for example, would she kill them to end it? If she would then that’s fucked up bc that’s her family, if the answer is no it’s arguably more fucked up bc she was willing to kill innocent people simply bc they weren’t her family. But it is so conflicting either way, Rick leaving her out there is pretty harsh but it’s also very hard for me to disagree with. Also whenever u rewatch s4 just keep an eye out for carol from even the first moment she sees Karen cough, you can kinda see right there she has decided what to do.

Epi. 4 As far as antibiotics gathered in this episode...I've always wondered at what point do solid antibiotics lose their total potency beyond the expiration date. I do know that you should never take expired liquid antibiotics as they lose potency quickly and are prone to bacterial contamination over time. And never take tetracycline beyond its expiration date because it can cause severe kidney damage.
Well, Lizzie seems to be our zombie "advocate" since she continues to insist that the zombies are a good thing as it means the dead get to come back, and it doesn't matter that they're not the same because people change anyway. For sure the apocalypse is changing everyone is some way.
Despite all of Daryl's character development and becoming more and more a voice of reason, Daryl proves that his hot-blooded streak is not entirely gone when he loses his shit after finding out that Bob has decided to smuggle alcohol in his bag instead of getting the much-needed medicine. The thing that really sets him off is that Bob actually goes for his gun over the disagreement. Whoa!
Hard to hear when Carol opens up more about her past, telling Rick that she learned how to fix a dislocated shoulder as it seemed easier than trying to come up with excuses to tell the ER staff. I can definitely see why Rick refuses to let Carol return to the prison since when the others find out what she did they will either try to kill her or won't want her around. And for sure, Rick no longer trusts her. It is heartbreaking to see him outcast her though, especially when you hear Carol calls out Rick, pointing out that they've both killed people to protect the group as a whole. As cruel as it is, at least he gives her supplies and a working vehicle, and they set off their separate ways. As you say, Fraink, it does feel like a death...will Carol survive?????
I found it interesting in this episode that Sophia, Shane, Lori and even Ed all get at least one mention, but still no reference is made to Andrea's death as part of the reason for Michonne's obsession with hunting down the Governor.
