What’s so interesting about Moira is that if you described the character to me before I ever saw the show, I probably could have come up with a few people I could envision in the role. But now? In the after? I genuinely cannot imagine anyone else bringing Moira to life. Just an iconic performance. So over the top and also so grounded.

Ledgedancer

No one can play any of these characters but this group of people

Ophe-phe

Behind the scenes like that always without fail makes me love the product infinitely more. Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio, Prometheus, Brother's Bear are all beautiful examples of this. But this one? Every single time it makes me want to cry.

Yet another joyous experience rewatching a beloved show through your eyes. Thank you!! ♥️

Late to comment. One thing I love. Ronnie saying "I'm doing this for David". The show points out how David is bad with people but Patrick is good. This proves how far he's come that Ronnie wanted him happy.

I found your reaction videos during my 5th re-watch of this show. It's so fun experiencing it with someone for the first time. There have been many awesome moments but I think my favorite is “Sing it Patrick!” Then the very next episode we get “Oh SHIT!” at the barbecue when we realize Patrick and Rachel’s connection. So fun to watch! I love that this show makes you fall in love with these characters and root for them through all their growth. And in the end, they all land on their feet, knowing what true love, family and community really means. I agree that all shows should do this kind of behind-the-scenes documentary-style episode. I love it so much! Side note: Another vote for Arrested Development. Think more comedy and less drama but also has very likable characters. And the mom actually reminds me of Moira in a way, she can be unhinged at times. Super fun!

My in-laws live about 45 minutes away from where they filmed it. We've always wanted to take a detour out there, maybe we should do that after I binge it.

Kara

Yo! I haven't watched your reactions on this yet. My wife and I watched this at the very beginning of the pandemic during that first lockdown! That time was so damn bizarre in memory. I think it's a good time to revisit this series now :)

I have to say, while there are a few moments in this season where I have some writing critiques, the finale did a masterful job of making things revolve around a singular plot (wedding emergency) while making each character's role in that plot relevant to the completion of their series arc. In David's case, of course, it's explicit. But as for the rest of the Roses... Moira is the final domino in the Rose family to fall, finally admitting, seemingly right as she stands in front of the wedding guests, that she's glad they were all here. Johnny can once again afford to solve a problem his family is having, an inability which has left him feeling helpless for years, but he couldn't have executed it without the help of the new community they've joined and bonded with—which is much different than the last time his family was in full-blown crisis, and nobody jumped in to help. Alexis can embrace independence not as an escape from her family, like her former independence, but as something she has the confidence to do because she is full of mutual familial love. She has more "I love you"s to offer than anyone else, and it's not even her wedding episode!

Atom

Squid! Where the hell have you been, loca?🐈‍⬛

Alva

I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing her fr but now that you ask… if she had said no I think Jane Fonda would’ve been a good follow up. Her comedy in Grace and Frankie gives me similar outlandish rich lady vibes lol

Dr. Quin

Jocelyn Schitt = jostling shit , their son is name Moira Schitt = more shit 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the gift that keeps on giving

Dr. Quin

Oof. The finale is SO emotional every single time. Such a beautiful show. Whenever/if ever you get around to watching True Detective Season 1, I'd suggest making sure you have a heartfelt comedy in rotation at the same time. As much as I love true detective I also want you to have something lighter to help you through it! Maybe community or parks and rec for your next sitcom?

Oh, I believe the fictional town of Schitt's Creek is set within the township of Elmdale in Ontario, Canada. I think I read that years ago. Which reminds me, “Roland Schitt” is a pun in itself....“rollin' in shit”! And his grandfather (or father, I don’t remember) was named Horace Schitt....like horse shit! 😂🤣

KimM

I feel like an obsessed weirdo to suggest Veep again. But for length and plot, it feels like the perfect replacement. I just genuinely think Frank would find it very enjoyable. So many reactors I don’t think would, but my fav here would! With Succession ending soon too, Veep is like the baby between the two for me. But I’m excited for whatever you pick! I’ll be tuning in!!

Sloan Lofton

LMAO, what happened there you say into the camera......David got a woody on the massage table! A friend who is a massage therapist told me it happens for some men during a massage, despite them not wanting it to happen...but for David, the masseuse take over and viola, a happy ending!!! The first time I saw that scene I could not stop laughing at Patrick's reaction.  So sad this show ends, but I absolutely enjoyed viewing it again with you, Frank. You're reactions and insight are always so good. Plus, I always love it when something hits you hard and you look straight into the camera. This show was very good because the people making it actually put so much thought and care into character development! I'm sad that it ended but it was a good call, they left on a high note. All I know is that I want the show to come back...do a reunion show perhaps. I want to see Patrick & David happily married with a baby, perhaps they come visit Johnny and Moira as first time grandparents. Alexa comes for visit as well and is a successful business woman. Perhaps a big party that Twyla, Ronnie and Stevie throw...something to get this cast back for a short series or just a one reunion show. I have read that Dan Levy working on a new Netflix comedy series called Big Mistakes. Netflix promises the series will be a wildly dysfunctional, hilariously chaotic ride that follows two deeply incapable siblings who are blackmailed into the world of organized crime. Sounds promising!

I wore my 'Ew, David' T-shirt for this, btw.

I joined your Patreon specifically for this show. It holds such a special place in my heart maybe bcs I started watching it during the pandemic and it was the light we needed in our lives in those awful times. And I’m so grateful for this renewed fun experience with you all.. It warms my heart to see new people discovering this show and slowly falling in love with these characters and this town and re-watches only make it better. I was sobbing through the last documentary episode .. again ..(thanks for that😂) .. and had to redo my mascara before my husband came home and saw me crying over my laptop. 😂 *I don’t know what could possibly replace this show (biased opinion: nothing can 😅), but I’m not going anywhere .. we still have 11 seasons of TWD (and maybe spin-offs too!) to get through. **Also , if you haven’t watched Lucifer, it’s great for some levity.🧡

1:16:00 My answer would be that Catherine is Moira and if anyone else were to play her, she'd be a very different character. However, I could see someone like Megan Mullally creating an equally lovable and fantastical Moira. She has impeccable comedic timing and I think she could have pulled off the mix of absurdity and warmth they wrote for her.

Ellen Noir

I would love to join you for The Bear!

jennifer

Thanks for the journey Frank! Can’t wait for what’s next!

INSECURE, INSECURE, INSECURE…come on yall. He has to watch INSECURE lol

Shaun Beyond

I thought of that one, too, but forgot to add it!

Melissa

Oooh that could be fun! Beware if you can’t handle cringe though.

Valaree

Totally agree about Arrested Development. I’m sure you’d like it, Frank! One of the most influential and best written comedies ever. I can vouch for Community as well. Great characters, similar warm “found family” vibe to this show. It’s also completely absurd and experimental with killer writing. Chevy Chase, Donald Glover… it’s just wonderful. Always Sunny is really good too, but it’s SO many episodes! It would be a big commitment. Incredible writing, dark comedy tone, fascinating characters who are pretty broken (and don’t change much). Parks And Rec is really sweet! Same showrunner as The Good Place so the humor is very similar. It’s a workplace comedy about local government, but not in like a biting satire way, just in a cosy way?

Valaree

Another fun sitcom is Brooklyn 99

Tyra M.

Another similar sitcom vibe that has the laughs and the lessons and the heart is definitely Parks and Recreation. Highly recommend it!

Lisa

The final season filmed in 2019 and the behind the scenes came out in 2020. I literally cannot believe how far away we are from all of this positive change in a mere 5 years. My heart is broken by it. I'll never stop fighting for people to be loved and accepted just as they are.

Melissa

I found your reactions through this show (I watch all the reactions of this I can find lol). It's such a beautiful, funny and endearing story! Everyone is so talented, and the writing so on point. I'll miss it! Now I'll continue with another one I love, Sense8. <3

Larissa Ramos

Also there is one who could play Moira as good as Catherine cause only she would get that crazy idea with the wigs, accent etc, mainly because of her background and experiences. There is literally nothing she can’t do or play and her voice work is insane..even tho she’s a legend loved by millions of people and has awards and tributes I still feel like she’s underrated giving how insanely talented and versatile she is. Not only she’s an amazing actress but also incredible singer with angelic voice, she can dance, write, play multiple instruments and as her colleagues describe her really just the kindest, most loyal and humble person and one of the most influential women in comedy’s history. She was also given a tribute award last week at tiff by Eugene. They’ve been best friends for over 50 years now🥹

Catherine O'Hara's wig

"Motherfuckers wouldn't even make a cake!" 💀💀

Melissa

now I’m crying again😭😭 I miss them so much, there’s been so much talk about spinoff or some special but Dan said that he doesn’t want to disappoint the fans so he has to be 100% sure with the script and everything bcs the ending set the bar so high, they should bring back the live shows🥹😭 and once again recommending The Studio which is probably the best show at the moment and imo best comedy since shitts creek plus it would probably only took 2-3 videos to watch it❤️

Catherine O'Hara's wig

SUGGESTED REPLACEMENTS (only comedies b/c we need light!): 1. "Somebody Somewhere": More like a comedy/drama. I know in my bones you'll love this gem of a show. PLEASE DO IT! (If you want something to scratch the Ted Lasso/Good Place/Schitt's Creek itch, "SS" is it.) 2. "Abbott Elementary": I think Taco is starting this soon. It's a fantastic show. 3. "Arrested Development": Brilliantly written and truly clever humor that circles back on itself in the most delicious ways. Imagine the Roy family but with total absurdity or the Rose family with zero self-awareness or growth. (I will say that if you want a show with character arcs and growth, this is NOT the comedy for you.) I have zero reticence praising this comedy, but I am a little unsure whether you'd like it or not -- so . . . if anyone else reading this has a thought, please share!! 4. "Hacks": Has been winning lots of awards. I watched and enjoyed the first two seasons, but I haven't seen further than that. 5. "Parks and Recreation": Once you get to S2, this show really finds its feet. Admittedly, the first season is not great, but it's only six 30-minute episodes. Comedy shows I haven't seen that get lots of buzz: Community; It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia; The Studio

Melissa

He reacted to Adolescence! It's fantastic.

Melissa

I can't believe we're here!!!!! Wahhhhh!!! Hitting PLAY now. :) :)

Melissa

I have never been more happy to not have a television or dabble in the Internet because shows like this. I get to watch with fresh eyes and open heart to witness beautiful artistry come to life and touch me in waves that remind me to stay grounded to myself and my beliefs of community, inclusivity love above all! Thank you, Franklin for this wonderful journey.

Future shows - Doctor who - I mentioned before but it's a big commitment. That being said it's cool to see the social commentary over the years. Fringe - 100 episodes, such a cool concept. A little like x-files| Modern Family- stupid funny, but in a good way Adolescence - just won a shit load of Emmy's, and for good reason. Possibly the best limited series (4 episodes and no more)

SeeJay

Nathan for You could be an interesting watch.

Takeo

I loved this show and it's difficult to think of someone else playing Moira. I could see Sharon Stone doing an interesting take on that character. But Catherine O'Hara was perfection.

Mary E Crum

You mention how amazing it is that the town rallies around to save the gay wedding and how unlikely it would be. But that’s the thing: there’s nothing like that level of homophobia in Schitt’s Creek. I think that’s what made this show such a safe place for LGBTQIA+ people.
