so perfectly said. And thanks for sharing that

i’m incredibly late to this reaction because i’m like a new ish follower (have been following you on youtube for a bit, and just subscribed to the patreon this month) but i just love ladybird. i watched this movie for the first time with my mom, and we have a very similar relationship to ladybird and her mom. the scene that really hits for me is when her mom is giving her the silent treatment and ladybird says “i’m sorry i wanted more.” i moved to canada for college from south america. it was almost relationship ending when my mom found out i was thinking of studying in a different country. i think there’s something sad about resenting the place where you came from and the people you came from. and wanting more than the place where you came from and the people you came from can offer, but still accepting that they’re part of you. it just resonated with me, as an immigrant. i think it’s beautiful how there’s bits of life in this story that everyone can relate to, even if their situation is not the same. your reactions are incredibly thoughtful and insightful, easily one of my favorite reaction channels out there

And it won't be the last time😂

I love love how this movie impacted you and moved you. That's what it's all about. And yes Denny's storyline made more sense after the movie was done and I totally understand. Greta Gerwig is a gem indeed. I saw this one Youtube video of her directing the garden scene where Lady Bird and Danny were playing around, And it was filled with so much joy and you can see her really loving her creative process. It was bliss. Thank you

I vividly remember watching this in the theater alone and crying at the end wanting so desperately to call my mom and just hear her voice. We've had a complicated and at times deeply strained relationship like Lady Bird and her mom dealing with financial issues and unresolved intergenerational family trauma with the added angle of the immigrant experience as well. The way Greta Gerwig handled this way with such love and care, attention as the movie explicitly states is so moving. It's one I keep coming back to given my own catholic lower-class up bringing lol. Along with all the teen angst and coming of age moments, it's just such a comforting film. Some tidbits and thoughts, as for the scene where Lady Bird forgives gives Danny for cheating it's less so for that and more so for using her to cover up his sexuality in the year 2003. That's more than twenty years ago and in an irish catholic family and community I can't imagine it would've been an easy time to come out, even to some as understanding and bold as Lady Bird. That's not an excuse for using her and cheating, but I'd give his character some grace as a dumb teen with genuine intentions. Also, with my own experience as the closeted gay kid sometimes you want to give someone who fits expectations the chance bc you like them as a person and desperately wish for it work out that way- at least that how I read it. It's awkward and clumsy, but full of heart. God, I love this film. Great reaction and thoughts, Frank! Thanks for sharing!

Frank hahaaaa, I love it when you gaslight yourself that an actor isn’t who you think they are.

Yes. I just saw an interview and heard her real accent

I love how no matter how convincing Saoirse Ronan is as a U.S.-born-and-raised teen—and she is—there's just something about her acting that always retains a trace of Irishness. The earnestness, the intensity, the way any sentence can sound like an entreaty. It suits the character too

I n my humble opinion,Ladybirds issue with her “boyfriend” wasn’t that he was gay, it was that he was using her as a beard. It was obvious when he stated “ I don’t touch your boobs because I respect you.“ then named a star Claude, the typical stereotype was he was good at singing and the performing arts. What I believe is the reason why she got so bitchy was the fact that ladybird was also using the young man to climb her way out of the wrong side of the tracks. Stating “when the grandparents die, we get the house.” Neither one of them had any passion, when both declared I love you it was very performative in my perspective. I believed almost immediately that she was using him, and he was using her. It was an unfortunate error in the writing of their scenes together to be so stereotypical about each other’s characters. Again, I could be wrong but then again I may be right either way as my granddaughter stated well grandma do you think you’d stand 10 toes on it and I asked her what that meant now that I know I say yes I stand 10 toes down on it. Ladybird‘s mother is an adult child of an alcoholic and they have a lot of different issues and many different ways of coping with it. Ladybird’s father is a solid man. I haven’t finished watching the movie, but I wanted to say this before I forgot it or fell asleep. I’m back. I made it through to the end of the movie and it’s wonderful ending. This was a very relatable movie of coming to age and the complexity and balance it takes to be a family wars, and all, the challenge of parenting, a coming-of-age child that with all her complexities and boundary testing came back around to herself in doing so it would seem that her journey rewarded her with what she really wanted, but her past experience returned to her what she always really needed. Lovely movie.

As a Sacramento native who graduated the year this was set in, it is so real and relatable. Great film, and I’m excited to watch it again with you!
