Sad to see this series go </3 Carolyn wouldn't have shot Villanelle herself because she has continuously had other people do her dirty work for her. One thing this series has taught me though is that you have to feel big feelings and let them go before it kills you, or somebody else lol

OOOF ya what you said about the kiss too! The chemistry between Jodie and Sandra as these characters is MAGIC and it's TRAGIC we didn't get more

OH WE CAN TALK ABOUT IT NOW! Okayokayokay so there's a lot to enjoy about S4. I've genuinely enjoyed it more on rewatches cuz a lot of fun shit happens and I can accept it is what it is. I was MAD and CRUSHED on first watch though.
The first ep is like a slap in the face: there's zero respect for the beautiful end of S3. Then it's basically filler with very thin plot and character progression for 6 eps. We watched Eve and Villanelle journey closer and closer together for 3 seasons, then they have hardly any screen time together in the final season?! It feels punitive toward the characters and the fans. They FINALLY come together in the finale and it's SO CUTE AND PRECIOUS. THE QUIRKS ARE PERFECT. THE KISS IS PERFECT. But I can't fully enjoy it cuz I keep thinking we could've had 8 episodes of them together (or more together anyway, of course things would get in the way and they'd get in their own way). AND THEN THEY FUCKING KILL VILLANELLE. The ultimate punishment for the characters and the fans. Bury your gays. I broke down SOBBING on first watch. It doesn't hit me like that anymore but it still hurts.
If anyone's on AO3 I highly recommend Saving Eve by DontShoveTheSun. It picks up from where we leave off here. It's well-written, true to the characters and very satisfying.

Anticlimactic is a good word for it. That is why I fully honed into their Union, because that was beautiful. But then they have to fuck it up by killing her
And 1000% Eve is going for Carolyn

That's fucked! I think maybe this needed 5 more episodes, but maybe not even that could have saved it

That is a wild ass description of Eve's screen. That honestly feels like gaslighting

the ending felt so sloppy to me like why kill her, especially like that?? eve not even being able go touch her hand and villanelle just floating away hurts so much. what annoys me the most is the writer for this season saying that eve’s scream at the end was her washing off everything that had happened in the past seasons and being able to begin again rather than a scream of loss and anger?? LIKE WHAT. even jodie and sandra disliked the ending and thought it was a bad end to villanelle’s story.

u mentioned the directing of the kiss, it was mainly unscripted they were just told to do a passionate kiss and see what happens so it was basically just jodie and sandra doing what they thought their characters would do which i think is what made it so amazing and seem so natural

An excellent show from beginning to end. The death card in tarot reading doesn’t mean physical death. It means death of illusions of self to the truth of who you truly are. Rebirth to the discovery of all possibilities of your transformation. Once you’ve let go of all illusions.

Corlyn killing villanelle was because as she said “you can’t go back to MI6 empty handed” so I guess her killing villanelle was a way to get back into MI6? but that’s why people have a lot of problems with this season but specifically the finale, a lot of questions with no answers and writing with no payoff. We don’t know who killed Villanelle, also Irina being released from prison was very random, it was useless and didn’t add anything. Also the 12 being the main plot but killing them off in 2 sec… People also have a problem with the whole “bury your gays” trope, it’s just a lot of inconsistency within the writing this season, specifically the season 3 finale to the beginning of season 4, how did they go from walking away and looking back to hating each other? Everyone knew it wouldn’t end well because it’s the title of the show, but they could’ve done better imo.

I always attributed Carolyn killing Villanelle to be a power move - tho why she still cares after everything thats happened I'm not sure. I suppose that's why Pam walking away is so satisfying... Carolyn can't just walk away at this point. She stated earlier that you can't return to MI6 empty handed and taking out Villanelle means taking out a big threat. It just felt anticlimactic for me...the whole 12 arch just didn't hit but I guess it's not about them. As for Villanelle and Eve...I knew one of them was gonna die in the end but this ending still vexes me. I can't imagine Eve letting it go..I mean that girls obsessions run DEEP--- like she'd definitely go after Carolyn, right?
Idk. *sigh* ....I really enjoyed rewatching this with you. Toodles ✌
