Gotta love a good callback and reference. Exactly. Found family themes In this show are second to none.

Very related to the conversation. And I totally agree Self righteousness not empathy

This might be a bit unrelated but the progressive mothers remind me of 'progressive people' who are against the hijab. Where I am right now it's constantly on the news, these better educated higher than thou progressive people and self proclaimed feminists who violently tear into muslim women because they do not understand their lives, spirituality, mentalities etc. They just have big blinders to things they haven't experienced and their activism comes from self righteousness not empathy. Like the progressive mothers saying: we believe in a woman's right to education. and then fighting tooth and nail to remove a woman from a teaching position. Prissy's mom being proud of her when she left the teacher at the altar, but an 'unmarried' miss stacy is a bad influence and a homewrecker.

I think that might have been me who said that this show is so good partly because most characters have good sides/redemption arcs. I was thinking specifically about Rachel, and people like Diana's family. Even though they can be very problematic, they have good aspects and are interesting characters. I think I did say, however, that there are three characters who are not redeemable in my head, two of which are Mr. Phillips and Nate. We won't talk about the third one yet...

You are so right. This show is restorative somehow. I always finish watching with a smile and a warm heart.

So much yes to everything you said!
I would only add that the fight between Marilla and Rachel also reveals how solid their friendship is, because after they've thrown everything they had bottled up at each other, they are still able to recover, and change each other's mind for the better!

the quote anne uses at the end (“tell me i’ll forget; teach me i’ll remember; involve me i’ll learn”) is attributed to a confucian philosopher from ancient china. it’s commonly misattributed to benjamin franklin tho, who obviously is known in part for his studies of electricity, so i liked that she used that quote specifically.
this was such a perfect season finale imo, so many amends made and frayed ends tied up so cleanly.

MAN I was so bitter when Gilbert tried to fix that fence. Not so nice to be alone and abandoned, huh, huh? 😒
Poor Cole. I hate how much I relate to the "no place in this world" speech now lol, didn't expect that this feeling doesn't leave once you're out of teenage years. I'm happy he stays with Aunt Jo now, I'm glad she got to save someone, just like, I imagine Gertrude saved her before 🥹
MARY AND BAAASH. Bash is so smooth, it made me curious about his age, so I researched and found out that internet's overall consensus is that he can't be older than thirty-twenty eight years old. Not only that fucked me up knowing he spent ten years working on a ship, but also it made me think that he probably couldn't have much experience with women at all? So I headcanon that he was so smitten with Mary that rizz just burst out of him like second nature 😂 I love him.
Elijah is such a tragic character, not a spoiler, because all that we need to know is basically shown here. However you think about their ages - Mary was pregnant as a kid herself, meaning it was a result of an assault. I imagine as he grew and learned the world around him - he probably figured it out himself. And imagine seeing your mom, who's been so wronged by her life and this world, to find a man who cherishes her and start building this perfect little paradise with him, also with half a farm now. I'd imagine it was heartbreaking and anyone in his place would feel bitter and think of themselves as a burden, one constant trace of a tragedy your mom lived through. Feeling guilt for your existence does that to one. Many reactors immediately get defensive and mad at him for not being that excited about Mary's wedding, but I just can't, his character is so tragic to me and we've only got three scenes with him at this point 🥲
The argument between Marilla and Rachel is easily one of the top 3 my favorite scenes in the whole show. I'd argue it's one of the hardest things in friendships - to address something you disapprove of in your friend's behaviour which stayed unaddressed for too long. And we're talking about 50 YEARS of friendship here. In my eleven years of friendship it took me two to three years to master up that courage before we parted ways. I love Marilla
"homeboy with a medium-rare ear" absolutely cracked me tf up 😂😂😂
Can't wait to watch your reaction to the last season, however sad I am that it's ending 🫡 Thank you so much for your hard work, much love!! 🩵

I wish more conservative blowhards like Rachel had her capacity to admit she's wrong and change her mind! It's low key the most unrealistic part of this whole series lol

Your AWAE reactions are always the highlight of my week! There's just something so wholesome and heartwarming about this show, even amidst some of the trauma and more serious themes explored. I especially love the found family and adoptive family dynamics; Anne with Matthew and Marilla, Gilbert with Bash (and now Mary), Cole with Aunt Jo... they just make you smile. I like how they called back to Anne and Gilbert in the doorway of the schoolhouse (s1) with the last scene of them in the doorway of the church. There are so many little scenes like that.

Seeing your reaction to this show makes me think you might enjoy Bridgerton. I've also recommended the Pride & Prejudice film, but with your enjoyment of this, maybe the miniseries would be even better and then you could watch the more modern film and compare. I'd also recommend the miniseries Alias Grace.

The amount of times I teared up or got chills during this lot of episodes, truly watching them again beside Frank hits different because he just GETS it, like I hesitate to recommend this show to people if I don't feel like they will FEEL it but Frank feels it HEAVY!! It's like the current episode won't even be done and I'll already be getting excited for hearing his thoughts and seeing how he will react to the events in upcoming ones. I've been a Patron of a few creators but it's usually only for a month at a time and then I'll come back again for another month a while later, but only Frank has me sticking around indefinitely, I just love this space so much 💖
