The more I think about it, the more I agree with all of this. I think you are right. It was more so about Carl

I always took Lori’s reaction in that scene as her breaking point. Because sure, she could handle what Rick had done to Shane and why he did it (she was the one who warned him after all) but i really think what made her reach her limit was knowing Carl saw it, that he was the one who had to put Shane down! Specially since Carl had grown to see Shane as a friend during the last months, he always went to him before telling his parents what he did or wanted, always showed him the ‘cool’ stuff he found… I think that’s why Lori reacted that way but I can also see why other people got mad at her for reacting the way she did. In my eyes she was angry that Rick failed to protect Carl from that ugly thing that was happening between the three grown ups.

The night they filmed this the "controlled" burn on the barn got out of control. Effects crew had to retreat and actually let it burn. So what you see there is 100% real. That's why the walkers didn't go towards the flames.

I haven't spoken to my older sister since 2009. She was supposed to stay at my house while I had my first cancer surgery. My son was only 19 at the time and his father is deceased. My prognosis was not good. She has always been pretty horrible and I had cleaned up messes she left for most of our lives. She was in prison when my husband died. This was the first time I needed her to be there for me. Day 3 and she leaves. Says nothing to no one. Thing was, she didn't so much walk out on me but on my kid and that I will never forgive. My dad is gone now, but he always tried to get ME to make up to HER. He says, You have to forgive. Why should I forgive when she is not sorry for what she did? I will never forgive her and I surely will never forget it. You don't get a pass just because you're blood.
I watched episode 12 a 2nd time the Sunday 13 aired. I wish more reactors got back in that space before moving on. That final scene really puts you back in that moment for what happens next.

I've seen it jokingly referred to as the start of a Rick-tatorship when Rick says it isn't a democracy anymore which always made me laugh. I think it was a heat of the moment statement, because he's grieving and to his mind, he's being criminalised for self defence (Lori's rejection of his hand on her shoulder) and he's trying to prove his innocence to himself in a way.
Lori's reaction here has always rubbed me the wrong way but I know that's a me issue, because I very much sympathise with Rick as my favourite character.
I miss Dale so much 😭
But I appreciate how we've seen Daryl stepping up the last several episodes in multiple ways, and how he says to Carol here that Rick had honour. Given how the two of them started, it's a nice reflection of Rick's qualities as a leader that he's earned Daryl's trust through his actions. I think season 2 has one of my favourite finales for those moments.

I'm all for not dealing with people who drain you, regardless of who is it. But, I'm glad you and your brother are at least cordial now. I have a great relationship with my sister and while I'm not *as* close to my brother (largely due to me refusing to do all the heavy lifting when it comes to maintaining contact), we get along fine. I'm very grateful for that.

“This is not a democracy anymore” is one of my favourite lines of the whole show 😁😍 And yeah it’s a bit tyrannical but even in a democracy there are good leaders who know how to take the will of the people and effectively lead, even if maybe some hard decisions need to be made.
Also I think Lori was just processing. Like she just heard 60 seconds ago that Rick killed Shane. Like give her a second to just react haha 😅
Oh one more thing! Was that Michonne??? Omggg 😂 like I recall seeing her entrance later in other videos but it’s crazyyy realizing she was in the finale! I love Michonne so much ughhhh 😭 I’m so glad she finally popped up 🥰
Another great reaction, thank you. Can’t wait for season 3! 😁

THIS, this was what ripped it for me with Lori. FOR NOW.
This is not me commenting on how I feel about her for the rest of the series. Only as of this episode. Im not saying whether my opinion changes later or stays the same. So don’t worry, no spoilers. But up to this point at least, I was not fw Lori anymore lol.
And I really liked her up until the last few episodes too. Like all characters, she had minor things she’d do I didn’t like, but I didn’t really hold that against her. I liked her for a lot of the same reasons you did, Frank. However, there were 2 other things that happened in recent episodes that helped me build to how I felt here. First, when she took the car out to go find Rick when he and Glenn had gone into town to find Hershel, it really annoyed me. It was a very foolish, reckless and selfish move. And she didn’t ever own up to that either. Next thing, I already wrote a long comment about under the video so I won’t go into much explanation, but her “devil on Rick’s shoulder” moment followed up by her conversation with Shane at the windmill (and one thing I got to clarify for you, Frank: you said that you think Lori is reacting the way she does to Rick because she doesn’t really understand just how bad of a guy Shane was. Go back and watch the “devil” scene. It’s literally the opposite. She is the one convincing Rick of how dangerous Shane is, and he’s not believing it at first. It’s during that conversation that she tells Rick that Shane killed Otis).
But how she treats Rick here? Nuh-uh. It made me maaaad lol. And a big reason is because of the fact that she always HAD been so supportive of him! Like, if she hadn’t been, if she had been a wife he felt he couldn’t trust and be supported by, I don’t think he would’ve opened up and told her. But no, he is so emotionally drained and fractured at this point, you can see how desperate he is to tell the wife that’s had his back. He needs to share what he’s been through, to be comforted by her, and for her to help reassure him he’s not a bad person. Instead, she cements that idea for him. And I can understand her being shocked at first. If she’d just been shocked, she could’ve distanced herself and said she just needed a minute to process things. I don’t doubt Rick would’ve done the usual Rick thing and disappointedly accepted that, but been alright knowing they would be able to talk later. But Lori’s not acting shocked. She’s acting enraged, disgusted by him and a little scared of him too. She’s fully rejecting him. And the look on his face because of it is heartbreaking. He looks like he feels betrayed (I know I would be). Then consider this: it was daylight when they spoke, and by the final scene, it’s dark - and she’s still not talked to him and is staying away. I believe it’s not really the others questioning him that makes Rick go off at the end. Though they help push him, I think its Lori’s reaction and avoidance that makes him snap. And he doesn’t need to tell the group about Shane. No, he does it because he has to get all that out to SOMEONE. And the one person he wants to get it all out to won’t, so it’s just waiting to spill out on everyone else. And when he’s talking, he’s still really just speaking to Lori. “MY HANDS ARE CLEAN,” he demands. And that’s because he feels like a monster now and is desperately trying to convince himself otherwise. And that’s a lot on Lori.

Nope, Lori you can't have it both ways. Lori appears disgusted and even frightened of Rick when he confesses he killed Shane out of self-defense, even though she had recently been, what I call, playing Lady Macbeth to Rick and telling him Shane was becoming too dangerous and needed to be "taken care of". This is the one time I despised Lori's behavior, way to hypocritical in my eyes when Lori pushes Rick away after he confesses....even though I know part of it was because she was also distraught about the fact that Carl was the one who shot Shane when he turned. She could have at least acknowledged Rick as why he had to kill Shane. It is a "Ricktatorship" right now and it needs to be.
And a big YES to the way they revealed Michone!! She is one of my top 5 beloved characters.

Honestly I also get a little irritated that they turn on him so fast. Especially Lori, who was only just a few episodes ago seemingly implying he should deal with Shane to keep them safe; girl he was only doing what you told him to do! Glenn at least makes sense because he values honesty which was why he trusted Rick so much before, but he views witholding information the same as outright lying so he was hurt by it. Maggie and Beth also make sense because they don't even know this man enough to trust him any. Everyone else, I am kind of baffled at.
But hey, at least Daryl and Hershel still seem to trust his leadership. Though 2/9 is a pretty abysmal approval rating for a leader. 😭😂

Wow. What you said about your brother really resonated with me. I had to cut off my big brother because of how he is, too. Sometimes I remember something nice from our childhood and I feel hurt knowing that's not how we are anymore. He did something unforgivable, so I don't think there is a return to normalcy for us. I am so glad you and your brother were able to find a way to relate to each other though, I hope that gets even better for you moving forward.
Hershel's infinite shotgun is such a meme, man never reloads his double barrel, but shells keep on flying anyway. Man's a wizard. Also "This isn't a democracy anymore"... it's a Ricktatorship. Another great meme.
I was so surprised when you pulled Michonne's name out until I remembered you played the telltale games and said you read some of the comics. Took me aback for a second.
I love that Hershel and Daryl's trust in Rick isn't swayed as easily as everyone else's, it really reflects their characterization so far. Daryl already started to figure out what Shane was probably planning, he already saw the evil in him, so he doesn't really flinch at Rick admitting to killing him. Hershel sees the good in others and didn't see any in Shane, I feel like his reaction in the moment is more concern for how Rick is handling it than anything else.
Carol has been coming for Rick lately, which is crazy considering he was the only reason they stayed to look for Sophia. I feel like she might still blame him for leaving her alone in the first place, which is valid but misplaced.
Not much more to say about this episode that isn't a spoiler or you didn't already say! One of the best episodes so far for sure.

Lets goo 👏👏
Edit: with the Rick/Lori confession, I think Lori was maybe mostly angry with Rick about the fact that Carl shot Shane. Her head snaps up when he says it, like you noticed. That would be a horrible thing to hear, your (very young) child shooting someone, when your husband was there and should have spared your kid of that choice. I think this was also the first time Carl actually shot a gun? So I think that maybe that was the main cause of her reaction

The basic idea is that all humans have become infected with the Walker disease already. So when they die, they become a Walker. It doesn’t matter how they die. This infection may have initially spread before any of the victims died and reanimated, and then once they began standing back up and attacking doctors and mortuary workers etc, it was assumed that the disease was spread by the bite. But it probably started with ordinary people who were infected already dying and then just starting to bite people.
A bite from a Walker will cause a burning fever and infection that kills a person very quickly, but anyone who dies with an intact brain stem will become a Walker. The infection is spread more quickly by the biting etc, but it’s already in everybody.
ETA: I actually haven’t seen this whole series so this is what I believe about it based on the four or five seasons I saw.

OKAY. RICK JUST ANSWERED MY QUESTION.
Can someone explain to me why Shane turns when he hasn't been bitten? I've never understood it. I tried to make sense of it suggesting that Shane's monstrous behavior overtook him so that he actually became a walker. But I don't know. It's always bothered me. Was he bit at some point that I missed? Any other explanations?
Melissa

One thing I never understood about this episode is how quickly everyone was willing to dismiss Rick as a leader. Like ?? For what reason?
The zombie hoard?? The hoard wasn’t his fault. Arguably it was Shane’s for taking the shot at Rick to begin with.
Killing Shane? He explains that in that moment it had to be done. That Shane was coming at him. How can anyone fault him for extending the Olive branch time and time again only to be betrayed like that.
For keeping the virus secret? He didn’t even know if it was true until that night and even if they knew, what difference would it have made? you know that if you die, you turn? You’re already dead who cares??
For wanting to keep the group together? He’s never steered them wrong before. Why all of a sudden do they decide “mmm actually I don’t trust you” 😭🤣 this episode always pmo
