Definitely has an effect on him and his decision making. But with sherrod it goes deeper for him bc he truly is a kid, Johnny was green and all but he was still a young man and bubs recognized I think he was too far gone and would never come around to bubs ways of living on the streets. Especially with the dictionary scene when bubs finds the picture he feels immense guilt bc he pushed sherrod away by trying to force him into being something he’s not. Sherrod shows flashes of talent by drawing a sketch of bubs and bubs takes that hard bc he was looking at sherrods intentions all wrong. Bubs is very intelligent and compassionate so he recognized him acting that way and being so hard on sherrod to stay in school probably just pushed him even further away. That’s why when sherrod doesn’t come home he is taking it very hard, bc he tried to make amends but it didn’t work. Also another little small detail I never see talked about is the fact that bubs was harming himself bc of the guilt he feels, yeah it’s minor and he’s only pulling out his mustache hairs but I do for sure think his intention was to cause himself some level of pain (at least that’s how I look at it could be reading that scene wrong).

2025-09-26 21:18:51 +0000 UTCI wonder how much of Bubbles' care and concern for Sherrod is a reflection of Johnny dying in Hamsterdam last season. Bubs kinda let Johnny go, even if it was just to let Johnny do his own thing, and Bubs can't stand to see it happen again with Sherrod.
