2025-02-09 23:23:35 +0000 UTCThe actors spoke about the filming process on the podcast (which I definitely recommend listening to!) and The Good Place actually almost always filmed using multiple cameras so they could get more than one angle at a time. The faces being out of sync is usually because the take with the best audio of the line is often not the same take as the best reaction from the other actor. And like @James Jones said, the cutting and splicing that happens in editing results in stuff not matching up.

2025-02-09 19:07:25 +0000 UTCAgreed! At least when a show goes on too long, you can just pick a point to stop before it started going downhill (even if you don’t get a nice, wrapped up ending). When a show just ends before the creator’s original vision can be satisfied, it’s such a letdown.

Nowadays with streamers, there is way too often the opposite problem with so many good shows cancelled quickly and not given a chance to wrap up loose ends😢

As much as I hate to see a good show end, I prefer a decisive, intentional ending early on rather than a cancellation after the show’s quality peters out. So many good shows stretched out waaay beyond their expiration point: Greg’s Anatomy, Supernatural, Shameless, etc. The story that the Good Place wanted to tell had 4 parts, and they told them, and it ended exactly where it needed to. Then everyone got sick of it playing non-stop everywhere you went. Also, the camera thing is a big issue for a lot of people, myself included. But it is not always because they only have one camera. Those scenes often get spliced together by the director, taking the best clips from dozens of takes. So unless you're watching a musical, where everything is done at a specific beat and synchronized, you'll never see the characters match up as they are flipping between different angles.
