The Good Place 2 x 11-12 | Full-Length Reaction

Comments

damn i may be Chidi. finished second season and now I'm overthinking the whole "good place" universe. if the thought about not being able to be good to your full possible potential while you were alive only came to Michael now... what happened before, for example, if a young man was sent to war and died there? he didn't have much time in his life to do much at all and then, on top of that, was conditioned by his surroundings into killing people. like? suppose his life was hard enough in pre-war conditions, and now he's sent to eternal torture for things out of his control? or, say, a person on an occupied land. "good place" seemingly doesn't separate killing based on it's context. so a person protecting their home - is bad too? or if a victim of domestic violence hurts the attacker back in self-defense - that's bad and selfish, because they did it for their own benefit (literal survival)? and I'm taking it to an extreme when only talking about killing, but even people like Eleanor or those who grew up in worse conditions. if Will Hunting died at the age of 18 - he'd probably be sent to a bad place. and, again, what about people who commit, like in "what dreams may come"? does this afterlife view that as selfishness or killing a person, never mind that this person is themselves? it looks like whatever comes after death should be more like what Chidi did to Eleanor. giving them space, resources and safety to learn. damn. makes me think that acting selfless most of your life is a privilege, which it kind of isn't, but also kind of is. my stomach hurts 😂 great reaction as always, thank you for your hard work, much love!!🌻

I know you finished the series a few months ago, but I just wanted to point out in case it hasn't already - the first line of season 2 is Michael saying "Okay, here we go" as a demon about to attempt to succeed in his torture plan, and the last line of season 2 is Michael saying "Okay, here we go" as he watches his friends try to become better people. This show! Such great writing, and why season 2 is my favourite. Michael's growth is truly amazing

Its one of the best network series I've watched. It'll get you right in the feels.

It's really good?

Franklin

oh he heard you and came to the rescue

Franklin

My sweet boy Gus showing up to save Frank's butt from my demands. What a King.

Noct

Methinks Frank should watch Friday Night Lights. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

Noct

I love you, Gus!🥰

My mother was a very wise stable blessing in our family life. Mom passed just after my 70th birthday and to this day I still miss her, yet all I have to do close my eyes s he never left she just is in another plane of transition to her higher self. I get the blessings of her smell on beautiful spring days. Thank you for your kind comment.

Franklin

Thank you thank you. Agreed. This storyline it one of my favorites so far

Franklin

Shout out to your mom and shout out to you for passing that along

Franklin

Exactly. So many external factors to consider

Franklin

haha for real

Franklin

Wow wow wow. The absolute insane setups and payoffs of this show. Simply incredible

Franklin

I felt this

Franklin

such a good point about Chidi's test. It's usually harder for him when the stakes are high

Franklin

Exactly. I love that example

Franklin

49:56 You made me think about the characters on "The Wire" -- for example, Dennis. If he died before prison, his actions and choices were totally different than how he changes and redeems himself afterward.

I laughed SO HARD when you mentioned Eleanor being flabbergasted that he was agreeing to go with Michael's plan so easily when it takes him 3 hours to pick out a sweater, knowing we were about to see Chidi's hat test in a moment. That being said, despite how "easy" Chidi's test seems, the fact that he knows this is a test that will affect whether he can be accepted into the Good Place or not would ABSOLUTELY affect his decision-making skills. In a normal scenario he's already prone to overthink simple decisions like that. But this one being arguably the biggest decision of his entire existence? I'm honestly amazed he made a decision in only an hour and 22 minutes.

There were 4 tests, and most people focus on Tahani's test and how easy it would be to ignore all the doors to pass the test. Funny thing is that by saying that, it really indicates the one test these people would fail. If other people's opinions weren't important to you, it would be as simple as the video game that Jason had to play, or choosing a hat. No one mentions how easy those tests would be, because the reality is they would ace those tests. Tahani's test is actually truly difficult for everyone, and anyone who focusses on it is likely deflecting because they would actually struggle if faced with the test IRL.

SeeJay

Fun fact: Tahani's test was straight out of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by CS Lewis. Lucy failed it, too.

James Jones

Ted Danson owned a bar in the tv show Cheers. This is a great nod to that.

maya rudolph time LETS GOOOO

alex !!

Just going to leave this here, because it is one of my absolute favorite callbacks: From Season 2, Episode 10 ("Best Self"): CHIDI: The circumstances under which we met are completely insane, and that just makes the grinding harder. I just wish we met the way normal people meet, like at a philosophy conference, or after one of my philosophy lectures, or you came knocking on my office door asking for help with philosophy. ELEANOR (laughing): Is that how you think people meet? CHIDI: I don't know how normal people meet. ELEANOR (still laughing): You're such a nerd.

If there is a literal hell, there is absolutely no one’s opinion of me I would have any desire to know , if it meant I would burn in hell for eternity if I did. No one at all.

Christina H

Like you said with how circumstances affect your moral character... Even ignoring Eleanor, just look at what Jason started with from what he's already said over the prior seasons. Insufficient educational system (he says his school was in a junkyard and also a drug selling program I think?), trauma/abuse (teachers at that school preyed on students), and even though he had a supportive best friend (I personally think that's why his emotional intelligence is so high), said friend was also stuck in that poor structural system of Florida and not any better off.

another TV series worth reacting to btw. outstanding indeed!

Tahani‘s test. I can save this with absolute conviction and no BS. I would’ve just walked past each door without even looking at whose nameplate was on there. I have always lived by something, my mom told me, what other people think of you is none of your business. The only person‘s opinion that counts is yours, it is your job to take every night before you go to bed. The day is activities as you’re undressing for your pajamas, everything bad, hurtful and angry or in interest to your spirit. See what role you played in it and why you reacted to it as you stand bare in front of yourself look into the mirror and ask yourself do you like the person you see as you get dressed answer that question and any questions of your character you find that you need to work on that will be your mission for the next day. Each day you lay your head down is now behind you, when you wake in the morning, do not pick up yesterday’s negativity. It’s like luggage that you’ll carry around and grow bigger and bigger, only pick up the lessons you’ve learned about yourself and I prepared to work on as time comes, so when you wake in the morning, you’re picking up a small purse with little notes to yourself that will come back to you as time reveals itself. You are the only person that can judge yourself, improve yourself, or hold yourself back. Think of it as a prayer. To become a better person as you walk through this world is your job alone to create good character and discernment, not judgment upon yourself or others. The more you look in word to improve yourself daily is a blessing in this time of our journey on earth. Obstacles to avoid being compliant and good or agreeable so that everyone thinks you’re a nice person. Your job is to question everything and to never judge anyone for you or not walking in their shoes. Live by example not by words, or deed that will give you brownie points to society. You were made singular and unique you are one of multimillions of spirits in this world on their own journey and in your lifetime should you find companions and at the end your life have a handful of true friends you are absolutely rich.

This is my absolute favorite show and I'm so glad you're loving it too! This "going back to earth" storyline is one of my favorites as well.

FreshFry

skoivan

The Kyle Chandler/Coach Taylor line is referencing the outstanding TV series "Friday Night Lights".
