I’m watching this way later, but I love Chidi. My brother told me that he’s never related so much to a fictional character than he does to Chidi, but he watched the show well after me. I’m rewatching and I see so many similarities 😂🥰 it made sense to me when he said it but now it makes even more sense, just watching once again. He’s basically my brother but from Senegal 😄 I told him that Chidi is flawed and anxious, but that he’s sensible minded. He can’t make decisions for himself because he’s too inside his head. His advice for others is almost always correct.

I've watched this show at least 200 times, and I just realized that Chidi pulls his lucky bookmark out of his pocket at the museum when he started panicking when Eleanor was talking with him. It's the little details like that that makes this show so amazing.

Hibbledy dibbledy I demand to see more Gus and Squid today!

Such a good point

Franklin

Exactly. I'll try to always watch similar shows funny but deep I only found out later. that they were married. How cute

Franklin

I’d forgotten how much I loved this show. It is very much like Ted Lasso. Amazing characters, fast paced, intelligent, doesn’t dumb it down or over explain, and despite how damn funny it is, it is also kind of deep and inspiring, exploring the human condition. Oh! The one tall demon at the party that thought he knew Chidi, that is Kristen Bell/Eleanor’s husband, Dax Shepherd. I got a chuckle when they had that little flirt. 🩷

Stop trying to figure it out? That’s impossible! You can’t watch this show and not be wondering what the hell is real and what isn’t. The whole point of reaction videos is to get their reaction. And I read or heard somewhere, not sure if this or correct or not, that there have to be pauses due to copyright laws.

Christina H

Yes! This is an amazing breakdown of the dynamics! And I had to laugh, because a few days ago, when Frank asked if anyone disliked Tahani, I think I was the only one who kinda did? I don't hate her or anything, I just find her philanthropy grating... And I identify with Chidi the most, so that explains it!! 😅😅 I had never thought of it that way, that they're kinda two sides of the coin, that's amazing. And Chidi needing some growth... yep. This incredible show has compassionate lessons for us all, we're all works in progress!

Lola Lirola

I think you are so bang on about Chidi this episode! He does get a bit frustrating, but as you say that is the point. As good as Chidi is in so many ways he's in the Bad Place because his moral inflexibility was so frequently a net negative for him and the people around him. And he deserves to undergo the character growth the others do as well by accepting a more practical morality! I like how the show shows you that intentions and outcomes matter. In some ways Tahani and Chidi are like two sides of the same coin, all intentions or all outcomes, and neither of those things are enough alone.

good to know. thats awesome

If you make your way to LA, go to Universal Studio's and go on the studio backlot tour. The good place village is part of the tour. Technically it's a "European set" and was used for the good place, but it looks exactly the same. They did purpose build the train station and that's still there too.

Franklin

amen!

Franklin

hahaha omg love it

Franklin

wow! Thanks for sharing this precious bit of info

Franklin

For real. I have to go back and make sure. Michael is a real one Yes indeed. Excellently made show

Franklin

Thanks for the tip and request. i hear you. I feel like if I did both of these, my reactions would be significantly more quiet and boring. Half of the fun is trying to figure it out as I go and interacting with the viewers is how we connect.

Franklin

Thank you. There's so much to chew when I love it. oh yeah you're right

Franklin

Very true. It's packed

Franklin

I went to comment this! Dax Shepard 😂

anna w

I would love Eleanor. Just sayin'.

Shane

I respectfully disagree. I love the pauses. Your insights are what I am here for, Frank. You also have an excellent knack for choosing when it's appropriate to pause & you always go back 10 seconds or so to replay so that the flow is not broken.

Melissa

lol Konji

Franklin

13:36 How do you spell that, Frank?

Melissa

I agree, Lola! I love an in-the-moment reaction. I also love Frank’s speculation. 😅

If I absolutely HAD to pick one, I think s2e10 is probably my favorite episode of the whole show, next to the finale. The whole vibe of the episode just resonates with me for some reason. I think it might be because all the characters good traits and flaws come into play and it just feels very well rounded. It's a new setting, it's action packed, it's got a ton of humor and great jokes, it's brings in philosophy...it just has a little bit of everything I love about the show.

Laura Pitts

First, I’d like to say, you’ve got great insight into the character growth. I love how it hits and you pause and take a moment to let the complexity of the show sink in. I’d also like to say, this is the first time I’ve noticed the balloon measuring everyone’s essence feels exactly like Egyptian afterlife where Ra would way your heart against a feather to determine where you’d wind up after death. I just love how much thought really goes into every aspect of this show.

Jesse Dill

That is so hilarious! Now I love it even more.

Lola Lirola

But I love it that he pauses!!! This show is pretty breakneck, and normally when people leave their thoughts to the end, they're not as detailed or they only remember the big twists, but not the small thoughts and connections that they made in their mind throughout. I love the pauses! They're an opportunity to notice more things, and to get to know more of Frank's thoughts! To me, the opportunity of watching someone react to things is to see what other people notice that I didn't, or that I interpreted differently... And usually end thoughts tend to be too general. We have a saying in my count, though "there is a color for every taste" (para gustos, colores), so I guess it's good that there's variety!

Lola Lirola

As someone who loves this show (I've watched it all the way through over 10 times, and also read Michael Shur's book, "How to Be Perfect: The Correct Answer to Every Moral Question", I want to give you a tip (no spoilers, promise), and also make a request. Tip: Don't try to figure it out. All of your questions will be answered. Just let it wash over you. It's way more fun. Here's the request. As you have pointed out several times, the pacing of this show is amazing. Please stop stopping! As a viewer it is really jarring. Your comments are insightful and well spoken - save them for the end. I think you will enjoy the show more, and for those of us who have seen it and know what's coming I know we will too. I hope I'm not being too critical - your reactions really are great. And for me watching good reactors is like getting the chance to relive the experience of seeing our favorite things again for the first time. Thanks, oh and by the way, the book is just like the show. The audio book version even is narrated by the cast.

Dan Miller

I love that episode 8 makes you question Michael's loyalty, the actor did such a great job with both 'versions' (for lack of better word) of Michael. And his self sacrifice in episode 10 always gets me, definitely one of my favorite Michael moments. Also I love what you said about the set ups! I've rewatched this show a dozen times and I always notice something new. It really shows amount of care that the writers (and actors in some cases) put in.

***Fun Behind the Scenes Info*** Jonathan Dancy, the Philosophy Professor behind Moral Particularism which Eleanor uses to convince Chidi to not be so rigid in their Bad Place adventure, is actually the father of actor Hugh Dancy (Will Graham). The showrunner of The Good Place, Michael Schur, gave an interview where he credits a chat he had with Hugh clarifying his father's work, with helping him to have Eleanor to explain and incorporate the principle in a dramatic way. Episode 10 really shows the influence that Chidi is having on her that she went beyond his teaching to read a book on Moral Philosophy all on her own. Plus it gives viewers, the Hannibal/Good Place Mashup we never expected! (a mashup literally made in Hell😈)

CatsEyeWatching

Lil Trivia: The demon who pesters Chidi and Eleanor at the party in hell is the real life husband of Kristen Bell who plays Eleanor!

Lola Lirola

I loved your definition: This show takes the human soul and emotions not darkly, but seriously. There *is* a difference!

Lola Lirola

You know how there's a 15 minute version of a Taylor Swift song, and the Lord of the Rings have extended editions and they're even better than the originals? I really need an extended director's cut of this show, where every episode is 2 hours!! Also, hey my brain does the same permanent background screaming that Chidi's does! This show gets me, I love it so much.

Lola Lirola

I have been waiting all day for this. Thank you lord jesus!!! i love your reactions
