He was willing to fall on the sword himself for Stringer's mistake, and it's clear that as much as he was out of sync with the guy at the end, Stringer was Avon's one true brother. Even for a soldier, that's probably more than he was able to handle.

2025-02-02 19:58:48 +0000 UTCI stumbled across this YouTube video a dude put together a few years ago, and it really opened my eyes to something. In season 2, just before D is killed, he goes to a book club and has a long monologue about Gatsby. In it, he talks about the ways Gatsby's past caught up with him despite his trying to appear to be a different man. At the time, we thought D'Angelo's speech was a reference to his own journey - and it was! But this video really opened my eyes to how it is ALSO a perfect illustration of Stringer's arc. The creators intended this to be an optional out for HBO if they wanted to cancel the show, and they told HBO if they gave them season 4 they HAD to give season 5 or end the show here after season 3.
