Watching and sharing this show with you all was quite a wonderful experience! 🙏🏾🖤

Let me know one show that you would love to see me cover that may be similar to this. No promises that I'm going to watch it next, but still I'd love to see some options.

He’s got such a great voice too!

Valaree

No I haven't. I'll look it up thanks

Franklin

I started Midnight Mass tonight. I think I'm on episode 3? Man, that guy with the beard that played Mr Dudley is acting his ASS off. I'm really impressed.

The Existential Shrew

Midnight Mass on Netflix is my favorite from Flanagan. I prefer it over both Bly and Hill house.

Sarah Rose

Omg! Tell me what you think. I'm obsessed with SFU. I'll talk about it all day lol

The Existential Shrew

I saw someone else mention it in the comments and went to look it up because I'd never really heard of it before, and it instantly hooked me.

Markatta

True Detective's first season is pretty incredible.

Noct

The perfect show!

Victoria

Same. I actually gave up in the second episode, but I went back and finished it the other day. It was pretty good. It's just a bit of a slog when you go in expecting Hill House. It's worth finishing if you have time.

The Existential Shrew

Not that you're a Claire. Possibly a Keith? I'm definitely a bit of a Ruth lol

The Existential Shrew

Oh, and it has Michael C Hall who played Dexter, and Francis Conroy who was in American Horror Story. It's the kind of show where you'll be like "Oh my God, I'm such a Claire." You know?

The Existential Shrew

I heard that Flannigan took a lot of inspiration from Six Feet Under and I felt that right away, especially in the Two Storms episode. It used to be my favorite show back in the day. Idk if it's good reaction content, as many younger people aren't familiar with it and it's more of a drama than anything else, but it's about a family working through all their messy shit against the backdrop of their residential funeral home.

The Existential Shrew

Franklin, did you see the movie or the trailer for the movie "Sing Sing"? I cried just watching the trailer. It looks incredibly moving and beautiful.

Melissa

Out of Flanagan's other work I'd really like to see Midnight Mass, it's a different vibe but really good and thought provoking. But besides Hill House my fav horror series is actually a K-Drama called "The Guest"(A shaman, a catholic priest and a no-nonsense policewoman walk into a bar... No, but I really love this show, it's really beautiful to me, and visually striking too).

Markatta

Another Flanagan show like Bly Manor, The Fall Of The House Of Usher or Midnight Mass. All of them have the horror element, but in my opinion, none of them are as haunting as Hill House

Rosilane Moreira

Ohhhh, I loved this so much. I was so sad when it was over.

Christina H

Oops, I don't know why this ended up here as a reply to you, sorry! I meant to send it to just the post in general. 😅 Anyway, I see good options everywhere!

Lola Lirola

Totally seconding Six Feet Under!

FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER

lex ✰

Midnight mass 100% DARK has some similarities and I’d highly recommend it - disturbing tone, great intricate writing, family drama, mystery revealed slowly over time, beautiful cinematography, brilliant score.

Valaree

The Haunting of Bly Manor is the next logical choice in the Flanaverse if you ask me. Tonally it’s similar to Hill House, but I won’t say anymore than that on that-no spoilers I promise! I think you’ll really appreciate the cinematography- I know how much you love the scene transitions in Hill House and Bly is no different.. It’s my favorite of all his shows/movies. It just hits all the right notes for me as someone who wouldn’t call themselves a fan of scary media as a whole if that makes sense. But honestly knowing how careful he is with his stories, I can’t help but watch some of his more intense works and have the same aw and wonder for the story because of how beautifully he (and each cast/crew) tells it. I might be watching most of the episodes in a few of his series’ thru cracks in my fingers, 😅🤣but the payoff of the completed story is always worth it in the end to me. Whatever you choose, I’ll def be there!

KLa Renée

Oh my god, THE NIGHT OF, yessss. One of my favorite miniseries. How could I forget about that one?

Amanda Hill

Midnight Mass!!

Catalina

Same. I've started it twice now and watched a couple episodes. It just isn't pulling me in.

Melissa

I haven't seen it for several years & I'd love to experience it again.

Melissa

🙌🙌🙌

Melissa

I'm going out of the box and saying Severance! It doesn't look like horror, but it's existential horror. It doesn't look gritty, but it will give you thoughts to chew on for days.

Lola Lirola

omg the OA. i need another season 😭

macie

i really hope you continue with flanagans works. 🙂‍↕️ even if it’s not soon, i know you will love the other shows he’s put out. i’m here to support no matter what, but i definitely recommend those. you give such good commentary and his shows are always so thought provoking—id love to hear your opinions on them 💞

macie

The Night Of is incredible, and devastating. One of the rare instances where the US remake is miles better than the original!

Lola Lirola

I'm thinking of trying again. I'm not one to get bored with shows very easily (I tend to prefer the deeper character dramas) but for whatever reason I really struggled with Bly Manor.

Holly Robertson

Seconded

Holly Robertson

I know you already have it in your list I'll never stop insisting, PENNY DREADFUL. Is THAT good, and more.

Victoria

I know everyone says Midnight Mass but its my least fave of the bunch (its still really good though). The Haunting of Bly Manor is my next rec 😳

Sydney

Gonna jump on the Midnight Mass train - I think you'd really love it

N. Cat

Any other shows like this ? ....... Nah, don't think there is anything else quite like this. Have to say though, pur enjoyment and appreciation of it went up a notch after watching it with the help of your insight. A show we'd love to see you watch though is Six Feet Under. Not going to go into any detail about it but pretty sure you would take a lot from it. It deals with some uncomfortable topics but is a complete roller coaster if a ride. Ps best endings of any show ever

Jules & Kev Morrissey

Thanks for sharing your watching of Hill House with us. Such a great show and a delight to share it with you.

Moon Brooke

I’d say The OA or Midnight Mass for me, I found both deeply moving and the writing was incredible. Really great dialogue that for really hit home for me. There are great shows out there but some are quite the commitment in terms of series length. The OA is a different writer and director, Brit Marling, who is brilliant young female, she also writes and directs like Flanagan, highly recommend her work. Both are amazingly talented writers directors whose work bring me to tears

Gabriela Popescu

Thanks for sharing with us Frank !! I’d love to see you react to Bly Manor, same brilliance and such a beautiful story. It holds a special place in my heart because it touches on subjects I relate to very deeply. Don’t spoil yourself about it though, it’s like Hill House in the sense that it’s truly an experience you need to fully uncover yourself. 🫶🏻

Camila

When it comes to the heaviness, the dread and grief and the brilliance - I would definitely recommend The Leftovers.

Ninaofthe90s

Would love to see you react to Midnight Mass!

Eve Andreadis

The Midnight Club is a show that i have loved since i watched the first episode, definitely less intense and horror driven but it has a similar vibe with some of the best written characters ive seen. Its an underdog show.

AllThingsNeo

Sharp Objects is a bit gritty and dark but really good storytelling, I think you'd enjoy it!

Spree

If I can further tempt you, "The Night Of" features Michael K. Williams, John Turturro and Riz Ahmed (phenom!)

Melissa

I think it's worth it. Is a little bit slower than hill house, but the story is very good. It's less scary and much sadder than Hill house

Bianca Gonçalves

Fall of the House of Usher also by Mike Flanagan.

X Jae

These are all limited series. Similar: Midnight Mass, Castle Rock, Sharp Objects, The Terror, The Sinner Perhaps not as similar but still excellent: The Night Of (!!!), The Queen's Gambit, Maid

Melissa

It’s legit one of the most well-written shows I’ve ever seen. No critiques at all. Loved watching you fall in love with it! Thank you for sharing it with us. I’m not sure by caliber if you mean as in almost perfectly written or shows that are almost perfectly written and a bit scary. I’m not too familiar with scary things 🙃 Hill House is one of the only scary pieces of art that I will rewatch 100 times more. Entirely selfish and I know I’m a broken record, I just REALLY want you to react to Severance. I think you would have a great time with it, it’s spectacular writing, I don’t really want to name any of the genres it goes into because it takes away element of surprise. I am also in line with Melissa’s recommendation (thanks for the reminder ❤️) about The Night Of. Loved that miniseries.

Amanda Hill

Love "Midnight Mass"

Melissa

I'd love if you'd follow this up with Mike Flanagan's next work, The Haunting Of Bly Manor It's not a sequel or anything, just another show by him featuring some of the same cast members playing different characters in a different house It's really beautiful

Wanzi

Is it worthwhile? I've tried it twice, and I've quit because I find it so boring. Hill House got my interest immediately.

Melissa

The haunting of Bly Manor is awesome, you should react to it. It has some of the actors from Hill house

Bianca Gonçalves

Jumping on the Flanaverse bandwagon to suggest The Fall of the House of Usher, especially if you're an Edgar Allen Poe fan

Aloy

Fantastic recommendation! I loved Sharp Objects.

Melissa

Almost broke my ankle running to the comments to say Midnight Mass! 🤣 It was an amazing experience to rewatch one of my favorite shows with you and this community. Its awesome to know you enjoyed it so much. I can't wait to watch your last installment in a few hours! :)

Jenny Jackson

I know you are going to get a ton of Mike Flanagan recommendations (and they are great), but I would personally recommend Sharp Objects if you haven't seen it. Similar to Hill House, it is only a single season. The actress who plays Beth in Little Women plays one of the main characters. I wouldn't necessarily categorize it as horror, maybe more of a thriller, but it is so good! Also, the actor Luke is in the movie The Invisible Man, which is a great watch (also a thriller)

Barbara Ann Lewis

Sense8 would be AMAZING. It's cerebral, hopeful, and just so lovely in a million ways. Only two seasons :)

anna w

It's been said multiple times but Midnight Mass! The scary parts are similar in tone unsurprisingly and there's a lot of overlap in cast, and I loved it just as much as Hill House. I still need to get around to finishing the haunting of Bly Manor so others can speak to if that's worth watching.
