I would definitely classify it way more as a 90s comedy than a western, just to be clear

2024-11-11 13:22:32 +0000 UTCyes, but with none of the seriousness of old school westerns - it does NOT take itself seriously hahahah

2024-10-31 13:21:18 +0000 UTCOh yes indeed. That should pop on to the next TV show poll

2024-10-31 01:45:16 +0000 UTCI'm glad I could spot the similarities to Clarice. Thanks for explaining that Oh that's the same doctor? hahaha makes sense. So this is where their "friendship" started

2024-10-31 01:44:56 +0000 UTCThat absolutely makes sense Laura. I love the way you're thinking about it. Especially the part you mentioned about his expression almost looking like regret. Not that I got me thinking as well. She wasn't part of the plan. The same way he said in episode 2 that he felt a great regret for what happened to Abigail and he feels a great sense of responsibility. I absolutely believe him. Because I think her getting hurt was never part of his plan

2024-10-31 01:43:43 +0000 UTCGot to love when creators honor the source but still spice it up with some of their own creativity. Kind of like the second interview in iwtv. I'm sure that was amazing for book readers as well because it's new material. I need to finish watching the trilogy of Hannibal movies. Probably after I'm done with this

2024-10-31 01:40:45 +0000 UTCSuper serious role. She killed it

2024-10-31 01:38:50 +0000 UTCofffff you mentioning how he bites a nurse and pulse not even getting high blood chills down my spine. Doing the most vicious things imaginable and staying as chill as a cucumber
Franklin
2024-10-31 01:37:23 +0000 UTCI know right. And I think another aspect that plays into it is that - Hannibal is usually so caring and kind to everyone around him. Sometimes even giving really good advice

2024-10-31 01:35:40 +0000 UTCVery interesting

2024-10-31 01:34:50 +0000 UTCouuu a Western

2024-10-31 01:33:38 +0000 UTCI love that. I'm glad we can dive into it more and find out new things through conversations. yeah the doctor or something else lol

2024-10-31 01:27:44 +0000 UTCI love watching you react to this show, you have so many good and thoughtful insights, you even managed to make me see certain aspects and scenes in a different light. Dr. Chilton is a hoot! I absolutely hated his character the first time I saw the show, now he's one of my favourites 😁

2024-10-30 15:11:22 +0000 UTCOh my gosh, I just thought of a Jodie Foster movie that 1. is amazing and 2. would be a great break from these dark themed shows and movies of late. It's a 90s comedy called Maverick. I won't say anything else, but it's SO GOOD.

2024-10-28 12:12:27 +0000 UTCOoooh, definitely agree. Also, Derry Girls!

2024-10-28 12:11:08 +0000 UTCThis is an observation, not a spoiler, but it seems like Will is already aware that Hannibal is the killer they've been looking for. However, his mind is kind of gradually letting him get used to the idea of it without breaking him mentally because I think he's subconsciously worried about what it would mean about himself. He keeps seeing this stag in his dreams and it's the same stag that he sees in Hannibal's office. He even picks it up before he sniffs him. I think maybe that might have been to also throw Will off because there are so many clues that make it obvious that he's the killer. Especially since Jack is the one who tells Hannibal about Miriram and then he receives a call from her?? That wasn't a coincidence. But the characters are dealing with so much that they aren't looking at the obvious clues.

2024-10-27 03:46:00 +0000 UTCWeirdly, like you, I didn’t suspect him right away either! It’s like you forget he’s a freaking serial killer sometimes. This show is incredibly well written

2024-10-26 16:06:27 +0000 UTCHannibal is wild for all the cannibal jokes and having a heart to heart with Jack about Miriam. It’s crazy how suave he is about everything. It calls back to the movie when Clarice learned when Hannibal killed a nurse his pulse never went above 85. Mads’ Hannibal definitely showcases that steady, unnatural calm about him. Great reaction!

2024-10-24 06:56:42 +0000 UTCGideon is played by the lovely Eddie Izzard, she’s a comedian normally so it was really fun to see her take on a relatively serious role.

2024-10-24 03:53:05 +0000 UTCI LOVE this episode! You were right about the similarity between Miriam and Clarice. This show takes a similar approach to adaptation as IWTV, it has a lot of fidelity in the characters, themes, and vibes, but remixes plot points from the books at will. Miriam is an amalgamation of aspects of Clarice and Will’s plots from the books. You clocked that her intro is straight Clarice out of Silence of the Lambs. The scene where Hannibal sneaks up on her is borrowed from a really iconic scene in Red Dragon. Gideon in this episode attacks a nurse much like Hannibal does in Silence of the Lambs, and Alana interviews him in scenes paralleling Hannibal getting interviewed by Clarice. I was going crazy over all of the book references when I saw this the first time!!

2024-10-24 03:44:56 +0000 UTCTo clarify, Eddie Izzard is the actor who plays Dr. Abel Gideon.

2024-10-24 03:37:53 +0000 UTCYour instincts on feeling vibes from Silence of the Lambs is spot-on. Since they didn't have to rights to Clarice Starling or the story told in SOTL, Bryan Fuller & Co. admitted they paid tribute by giving echos of Clarice to Jack's trainee Miriam. Also Eddie Izzard's performance suggests the snarky and darkly humorous attitude of both actors Anthony Hopkins in SOTL and Brian Cox when he played the imprisoned Hannibal in 1986's ManHunter, which was the very first Hannibal film.

2024-10-24 03:35:02 +0000 UTCHello Franklin, from the very beginning, I suspected the doctor was the killer and that he had subliminally made the other Doctor Who killed his family believe he was the ripper so that he could go on doing other nasty things. I had Hannibal on my mind, not as the ripper but as, a continual manipulator. I think that is because I read all three books and watched all three movies and it gave me a deeper insight to his psyche. But when you had that lightbulb moment, it gave me a conundrum and then at the end when it was revealed That he did it there was something about when he asked what she was like. There was a moment in his expression that almost looked like regret. And that he didn’t want to kill her. She wasn’t part of the plan, but because she saw that that was who he was, he had no other choice. I don’t understand the taunting other than to psychologically help Jack to breakthrough to help his wife and keep hope alive. I know that sounds sick, but we’re dealing with a very intellectually manipulative sociopath that has one and that flaw is he kills those. He believes deserve it, just like in the ending of the first Hannibal when the last phone call was I’m having an old friend for dinner. I hope that makes sense.

2024-10-24 03:33:41 +0000 UTCIf I remember correctly, they didn't have the rights to the book The Silence of the Lambs for this show, so they can't use Clarice's character but Miriam seems to be a surrogate. But, you should remember Dr. Chilton from the movie (having an old friend for dinner) -- the dude who is running the institution in this episode . . .
