I love that Jacob Anderson said that about the show. That was one of the reasons I absolutely gravitated to it easily immediately in episode 1. I'm glad you're enjoying it

2024-08-31 18:29:41 +0000 UTCAgain, love all your reactions and commentary! One thing that I remember Jacob saying he really appreciates about this show is that the changes are color-conscious instead of color-blind. This was the reality of the time and it’s important to not gloss over these issues just to make your audience more comfortable. Art and media can and should make you think and show different perspectives.

2024-08-25 16:56:16 +0000 UTCYou know it's only rewatching it now that I'm noticing just how much the show is about accepting yourself for who you are. Louis doesn't want Lestat saying "vampire" in his place of business, doesn't want to kill etc. He's also ashamed of his sexuality. It's like he's always trying to be something he's not. Whereas Lestat is much more of a live in the moment, enjoy life, embrace yourself fully kinda guy. Also, Lestat doesn't go behind Louis' back for the affair. He puts in right there in front of him almost like he's inviting him to join in. But Louis just leaves and says have fun. The inappropriate laughing by Lestat is something that's mentioned a lot in the books. It's not done out of malice. In this case I think he's so happy that Louis is finally showing some sort of interest or affection for him. I mean generally he doesn't seem that bothered about Lestat, whereas Lestat professed his love from the start. And he 100% cares about Louis. If you pick up on all the little things he says and does - buying the saloon for him, visiting his family, getting annoyed at the singer who's going to leave Louis' club, trying his idea to only hunt criminals, not killing in front of him etc - it's clear he loves Louis. Also, he didn't force Louis into it without consent. He gave him the option and Louis said yes. Not in the best circumstances, but Lestat knew Louis was in a very dark place then and basically on the verge of losing his mind or killing himself. He just did what he thought he could to save him. Edit: we all delighted in Fenwick's death. He got what was coming to him. Horrible man. And yes, I love Lestat. I love Louis too though. Most readers of the books love Lestat as he's the main protagonist of the majority of the books.

2024-08-19 13:52:46 +0000 UTCabsolutely! i loved that they did that for both Louis and the reporter. it is a great reminder how much memory can change and I'm sure it's even greater with how long they live. we sometimes gloss over the bad parts and focus on the good and vice versa. it goes in and out like dreams. it can be scary at times but it's all part of working through it. the past can be really confusing and complicated for all of us, and trying to relay messages and themes to someone not in the situation can be very daunting. Louis is very brave to try again with time and new eyes.

2024-08-14 09:32:38 +0000 UTCBeautifully said. Honestly, I think my bias against some of the traits that Lestat freely displays is one of the reasons I am sometimes incapable of giving him a little more grace. Especially when I see how it's actively harming Louie. But you and some others in the comment section have definitely given me food for thought. Appreciate it

2024-08-14 05:40:14 +0000 UTChahaaaa yep you were definitely targeted in this episode🤣 I think you're right. He took a piece of himself. I'm glad we're watching this together

2024-08-09 07:43:47 +0000 UTC“Only eat readheads.”! I’m offended! 😂 And I also have a black cat!! I feel targeted. I think Luis bit his wrists because his urge to feed off his friend was too great and he didn’t want to hurt him. I’ve not seen this before either.

2024-08-09 01:06:40 +0000 UTCLouis and Lestat, but also my girl Claudia are such compelling characters. Can’t wait to see your reaction to her. Although, I wish you’d give Lestat a little more grace considering he’s a vampire that’s the nature of a vampire, however, I do understand that he’s supposed to be the major antagonist of this season. Unfortunately, Lestat doesn’t understand Louis struggles as you already know and Lestat is not just a white French man but he’s also an old vampire so while he can see the white people in America discriminate Louis and feels disgusted by it… he also believes wholeheartedly that Louis being a vampire was going to solve all of his issues and he just found out the hard way that Louis wasn’t going to be the companion he had hoped. When Lestat saw Louis for the first time, Louis pulled a knife of his brother and that’s what made Lestat believe Louis has the strength to be a good vampire (by good vampire I mean being capable of killing) but Louis was just putting a facade to protect his place of business and this was something Lestat couldnt see because he doesn’t understand Louis experience as a black man in America. A major issue with Lestat is that he’s impulsive and brutish but I do understand part of that is because of his own trauma and vampire nature, I do wish he would stop and listen to Louis so he could try and understand and realize he is hurting the vampire he loves. And who knows maybe he will see how he failed Louis one day or maybe he won’t.

2024-08-08 17:59:22 +0000 UTCI appreciate your presence and your Insight for me in this show. You're not just a Lestat advocate, you help me see some of the nuances that I may brush away because of his more evil tendencies. Every time I read your comment I always think about how I should give more grace and be more understanding to each of the characters. Especially Lestat. And to your point about the church. It's a good reminder that he gave Louie a choice. But I don't think Louie was in the best headspace. And Lestat was a little bit manipulative in his offer. He took advantage of Louise's feelings about his position in the world. Same things that he will later discard or not take as important when Louie brings it up to him. His blackness, racism, loss of his family Etc and absolutely Louie deserves some blame in this as well, he was a very flawed man even before the offer was made Lestat is too much lol, he wants to eat his cake and have it back. I'm so looking forward to what the series will do with him

2024-08-08 17:18:43 +0000 UTCOh, you can bet your sweet ass that I am absolutely watching season 2 IMMEDIATELY after season 1 is done. No manifesting needed 😂How could I not.. this show is one of the best things I've watched in a while. And I appreciate you for holding your tongue on some of the graded details that may be spoilers. Because trust me a lot of people cannot do that. So many scenes and themes of TV shows have been ruined for me because the viewers unintentionally got too excited and said something. I look forward to all the discussions when the series is done
Franklin
2024-08-08 17:07:25 +0000 UTCVery true. Regardless of Louise's age and experience. I'm sure he definitely still has some bias hence him not being a a reliable narrator. You and me both. I can't wait to watch it
Franklin
2024-08-08 17:03:45 +0000 UTCIts always fun when you guys are also watching something alongside me for the first time. I don't know, it just gives me that good feeling of community and engagement. Love it. I think I saw ads for what we do in the shadows a while ago. It's a comedy right? You're very welcome. Thanks for watching

2024-08-08 17:01:04 +0000 UTCYes, it is thank you. When I tried to play it last night, the play button was gray and had a/through it and at the bottom showed a timer of 00.:00 I refreshed and reloaded nothing happened then I turned off my iPhone and restarted it and still nothing. Thank you for asking if it’s playing now because I just checked and I’m about to watch. Thank you I don’t know what happened. It may be something on my end, but I’m grateful that I can watch it tonight.Franklin for all your assistance.

2024-08-08 07:54:27 +0000 UTCNow we’re cooking with this show. I love that even though it’s a short season, each episode packs so much into the story. You agreed when Louie told Lestat that he took his life. But don’t forget that Lestat gave Louie a choice in that church. He propositioned Louie and told him that he only had to ask for it, to which Louie agreed. After seeing all the carnage that Lestat did in that church, Louie willingly became a vampire. And even though Lestat is toxic, Louie is not entirely blameless for his predicament. But I love this episode, how Lestat just couldn’t handle Louie being with someone else, but he wants to have his fun. He’s too much. And I can’t wait for you to see who Claudia is. 😁

2024-08-08 04:27:30 +0000 UTCAlso woo just finished your watch! Every time I want to comment on something you've said I'm like oop no @me hush that's too much info for this moment. Holy moly, I cannot wait until you get to the end of season 2 so that we can unlock open discussions about this show. (I know the s2 reactions haven't been confirmed yet but allow me to manifest it. :D) Until then, excited for you to meet Claudia!

2024-08-08 04:17:43 +0000 UTCLestat said of course one too many times haha! I love how this ep does a good job at showing that Louis is probably not the most reliable narrator. I’m sooooooooooooooo excited for the next ep! Saturday can’t come soon enoug:)))

2024-08-08 02:40:45 +0000 UTCYou dreaming about this show is so real. I catch myself trying to think through super complex problems at work but this show will just be playing itself in the back of my head on an old film reel. It's a productivity issue, save yourself!!

2024-08-08 01:35:54 +0000 UTCIs it playing now?
Franklin
2024-08-08 01:35:10 +0000 UTCBig facts. I noticed all the soldiers were white but I couldn't make a comment because things were moving so fast. And I was expecting Louis to say something about it. He wouldn't be able to handle it. And yeah there's a bigger conversation there about how sometimes even allies can't identify parts of our identity that the world comes at because they don't have that lived experience. I absolutely love that this show is based around that time and has that racial subtext. Whoever decided to make that change needs to raise (I'm guessing it wasn't like that in the books)
Franklin
2024-08-08 01:34:46 +0000 UTCI love this series - can't wait for Saturday!

2024-08-07 12:37:27 +0000 UTCIt's always funny to me that Lestat demands polyamary (he doesn't ask at all) but unable to compete with a single black man. That man brought all those soldiers into thier home because as he puts it " now he knows Louis has a type" but not a single one of those men were black if Louis supposed type was actually there he wouldn't have been able to handle it. In addition Lestat doesn't understand that just because Louis is now a vampire doesn't take away the fact that he is Black living in this era. The selfish things that he can do, Louis can not simply because he is black. In his actions he can be an individual however Louis can be an individual in his actions his actions affected the community.
