As a mom of 3 daughters……I personally don’t like beauty pageants for children. I just think that they have the ability to create body image issues for children who are beautiful and perfect just the way they are. However I love how the movie handled it. I always loved the way Olive’s father, brother, mother and uncle were absolutely there for her.

So just like you I was very impressed and surprised at how good this film was. Facts. Not an ideal world for sure. At the end do you remember the punk rock guy that was the only one cheering for them? He didn't have a kid at the event, What the freaking hell was he doing there just watching those little girls Glad you watched it

I’m not a fan of pageants for young kids either. In an ideal world, it wouldn’t matter b/c they’re innocent kids having fun. But we don’t live in an ideal world. Kids are easily influenced & people are creeps. Thanks for the motivation to finally watch this

I disliked Grandpa initially because of similar reasons and some of his views. But obviously ended up loving him later because he had so many good moments of being a great father and a great human in general. Hindsight definitely helps. He's a good man with flaws, which is very realistic

That man with no children is somthing that I find extra concerning. I was bothered when you disliked granpa in the beginning - But then I started to think how I have watched this movie so many times over the last twenty years, maybe I don't remember my first impression of him.

Yes I did love that moment on stage with all of them letting lose and being a family. Especially the father

Beauty pageants for children are a big eeek for me, especially the sexualization (which this film darkly comments on) and parents who push their kids into it/ put toxic pressure & expectations on them I would watch the heck out of cat pageant though 😉. SQUIDDY's rehearsing already 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🖤🖤🖤

2024-08-01 10:01:57 +0000 UTCI love this movie it's a gem. I think it feels like all characters and dialog are realistic. I am glad you got to see Alan Arkin-grandpa was deeply flawed person. But he really did love his family. He won the Oscar for best supporting actor for this role. The ending is so funny...what a way to bring the family together. Great reaction.

2024-08-01 08:46:38 +0000 UTCI believe, with children, honesty is always best. In this situation the parents should have discussed it before hand. But kids don’t always allow for pre planning 😂. I love how this rather dysfunctional family eat dinner together at the table every night. That doesn’t happen much these days.
