I feel you. Talking about the different levels and types of racism. I was watching the Simone Biles documentary on Netflix. It was so heartbreaking seeing how racism affected all of the women. It's like, so many different things and aspects of life that you have never thought about, you can find some racism there. It's like this ever-present thing that we couldn't escape. Still can't Taraji definitely ate. I will always remember that line and that whole outburst I will not🤣 iconic

2024-08-08 15:52:02 +0000 UTCNot much to say about this movie except that it’s perfection. Everyone in this film were already stars in their own right, and to see them all in one movie is just amazing. It’s always interesting to see the different level & types of racism. From obvious & in-your-face, to people like Kirsten Dunst who think they’re just going along with the system/how things are, to people like Mr. Harrison who seemed to treat everyone equally but had the privilege to be oblivious to the fact Taraji’s character had to run miles to the toilet every day. Taraji’s monologue after her bathroom run in the rain is iconic. The line, “I work like a dog, day & night, living off coffee from a pot none of you wanna touch!” comes back to me at random times. So good. And I have to mention Janelle’s response to Taraji telling her to have some shame of, “I will not” makes me laugh every time too. I have to replay it every viewing b/c her line delivery is so funny 😂 Great reaction as always!

2024-07-30 18:45:08 +0000 UTCI'm so glad I did. Feels like one of the most important ones I've seen in a few weeks. the education system is just horrible with things like this, unfortunately. I hear you. It's hard not to get emotional in these moments. That speech was from her soul. And I'm sure Taraji definitely brought some of her own real-life experience into the frustration she felt as the movie character, in that moment. Freaking beautiful and tragic at the same time

2024-07-30 14:42:29 +0000 UTCI wish more people would look back at history, not to deny it but to learn from past mistakes. I appreciate and share in your belief that America is capable of moving forward and improving in so many ways. And doing right by all the people that it has harmed. I recently learned that Obama decorated Catherine for all her achievements. Makes my heart so happy. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. Thanks for your input as always

2024-07-30 14:34:15 +0000 UTCI haven't seen the help but it has come up in a lot of conversations. It's on my mind for sure. I know right? I grew up in Nigeria so I didn't grow up around racism, but being here for the last decade and just learning more about black American culture. It's so difficult to even think about all the things they went through here. Yes, her outburst was so Justified and refreshing. I agree The Other Woman in the room felt that in her chest. Because speaking up against the powers that be for one woman, is speaking up for all women. Absolutely loved it. I'm glad it was so impactful. We all got to feel these things. Shows where our hearts are and that the fight doesn't stop.

2024-07-30 14:25:38 +0000 UTCGlad we could watch this together. I feel you. Dorothy is so honorable and such a boss lady. S*** is definitely emotional. Woman power baby. And the most annoying part was that all those men knew that those women would run circles around intellectually but still they wouldn't give them a shot. I totally agree more like this should be made. I'm happy you really enjoyed this one

2024-07-30 14:23:53 +0000 UTCI'm so happy you watched this movie, it's so amazing. I am still disappointed that our school system didn't teach us about these women, only the astronauts that went to the moon. I'm happy their story was told and done so well. I cry every time I watch it, especially the part with Katherine's speech about the bathrooms. Oof, gets me every time.

2024-07-26 19:22:22 +0000 UTCI loved revisiting historical film, and photos. What a wonderful time to be alive to be a part of a massive sea change in this country. I know we still have a very long way to go and very difficult prices have been paid with very many losses of lives, that should never have been lost. But I believe America has the capability even in the troubling times to pull together and once again push ourselves forward into a better future for all this movie was amazing and I’m so so grateful to have watched Obama give Catherine her flowerson the 50th anniversary. Thank you Franklin for this lovely movie and a reminder of where we were, how far we’ve come and how much further we must go.

2024-07-26 07:30:13 +0000 UTCI challenge any American to know history of other nations and other continents that were historical and very meaningful to other cultures other than our own. We are all citizens of the world yet we behave as if we are the only ation that is important. This leads to ignorance, and easily manipulated people who are willing to go along with narratives that aren’t humane much less correct. You’ll never find a pitchfork in my hand. However, you will find a heart open and willing to learn. In my youth, I served in the peace core and lived in several different nations, I speak four languages and yet with all that knowledge and experience with other cultures I have so much more to learn.

2024-07-26 06:30:25 +0000 UTCI love this film so much. Have you seen The Help? You might like that, if you haven’t seen it already. And it is very jarring to hear the racist ways people treat them. “Colored people section is in the back of the court room.” It makes me cringe. And I can’t imagine having to hear it many many time’s a day for my whole life. And her letting them know her anger over her bathroom trips, always makes me cry angry and shameful tears. But I always notice the look of on the face of the red headed woman in the office. Empathy, shame and a wee bit of pride that she spoke up.

2024-07-25 23:29:20 +0000 UTCI haven't watched this before seeing your post. I teared up when Dorothy brought all her girls with her. Fuck yes! You need manpower? nah fam, you need womenpower. They got the fire and determination while you bumbling idiots rest on your privilege. EDIT: Teared up a few times after too. What a powerful film. I'm glad they got their flowers and glad that these stories are being told. We need more of this.
