A note: Buffalo Bill is not trans as Dr. Lecter mentioned - "Billy is not a real transexual. But he thinks he is. He tries to be. He’s tried to be a lot of things, I expect." - but a lot of people miss that. He doesn't want to be a woman, he hates who he is and wants to be anything else, due to years of abuse. Starling also says this while speaking with Hannibal: "There’s no correlation in the literature to transsexualism and violence. Transsexuals are very passive."

The character of Hannibal Lector is so famous in cinematic culture, Hopkins knocked it out of the park! Love that you didn't fall for the second bait and switch with the location. No one does those staring down the barrel of the lens better than Jonathan Demme! And the absolute beauty of the 90s 35mm lens, gah! I love how he also shows the pov shots where you really feel like Clarice, surrounded by all the staring eyes of men. Lastly, there is both a prequel and a sequel to this movie (different directors) both are really great, but nothing like this classic! Enjoyed watching with you!
