As a black man, I've been surprised every time someone has called me beautiful recently... because for so long (decades) I was looked over and ignored. When white people are taught not to appreciate Black beauty, it may be a preference, but I think it's a rehearsed, reinforced preference that one chooses not to challenge in most cases. My tastes have broadened over the years (decades). I have always noticed that more older men will express appreciation for my beauty... and I think many of them could not have appreciated that when they were younger. Or they may have been afraid to express it. Or they may have not been able to "explain" a Black boyfriend to their racist circle and family, and so they dated people other people would approve of. I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong.

But trust me, you two are gorgeous. Beautiful people. If I was there I certainly would have the insecurities. Drive safe to Chicago and have fun shopping at market Days lol
