When the Roses Bloom Again - The Foe's Ally

Below is a brief breakdown of some things that have been going on in my life recently, so do please give it a read.

Please do comment/DM any questions you may have regarding any of this.

Anyway, enjoy the chapter, and as always, thank you for your continued support.

Long story short, I have been in talks/negotiations with a very big publishing company for months about publishing some of my original works and the contract offered had to be signed on the Friday just gone.  However, there were many terms/details that I wasn't happy with.

1. I would no longer be able to publish fanfiction in any form on any website, even my personal one with immediate effect.

2. I would have to delete all current stories and profiles pertaining to any work that could be considered fanfiction.

3. All posting on patreon including podcasts and original work would have to be vetted by the publishing company before being published.

4. The publishing company would receive a considerable percentage of my patreon earnings along with money made from sales of my books.

5. The discord server would be allowed remain active, but it would be heavily regulated/ changed to tie in with the restrictive views of the publishing company.

6. I would be unable to create contracts/deals with potential sponsors, but would be given a stipend from current companies the publisher is affiliated with for promoting them through the podcast and hosting their ads on my website.

There were many other facets discussed during the negotiations but these are the key points that would have affected you all here.  I explained this to those on the call on Friday and explained my decision.  As you can see by the fact I released chapters today, I decided against signing this contract.

To me, it felt as though I would be being very disloyal to all of you here, my patrons, and those on FF.NET to do so.  Its each of you that have gotten me where I am today, and to me, that is much more important than selling out for any amount of money they were willing to offer me.

Not only that, I would have been very disloyal to myself and my own morals, so I will continue as I am.  I will take the self-publishing route in the near future, and I just wanted to thank you all for being a part of the community.

To my patrons, I wouldn't be able to do what I am without all of you.

Anyway, that is a very long message and I apologise for that.

Ah the beginning of Charlus and Dorea. I hope that they get together sooner. Also, I would like to say that we as readers greatly appreciate that you continue to write your original stories, as we look forward to the 100+ ideas that you have. Thanks again!

Morals and loyalty aside, the restrictions they sought to place on you were clearly both unnecessary and excessive. Agreeing to them would have been doing yourself a disservice as an author and as an individual. If you had any doubts about telling them to fuck off, they must have been offering a lot. If you ever do want to pursue a similar agreement, however, I think the world would be a slightly better place if you tacitly allowed someone to rehost your fanfiction work (out of your control and thus not in violation of any contract - presumably). Though I think we'd all prefer you continued writing more, preserving what you've created so far shouldn't be impossible, or even difficult.
