I just discovered your YouTube channel two days ago and love your Heated Rivalry reactions so I jumped over here to your Patreon. Rocky is the first movie reaction I have watched. I was Frank-N-Furter in a stage production for three years and have studied this material a lot. I'm also 45 in the US, so somewhat older than you and have a different reference base. That all being said, excellent review. Richard O'Brien, who played Riff Raff in the movie, is the writer and composer of The Rocky Horror Show. He is also a fan of the movie genre known as "B Sci Fi". This movie is a parody/homage/love letter to those movies. If you ever saw Scary Movie, it is a parody of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Rocky Horror is like that but with low budget Sci Fi from the 1950s and 60s. Unfortunately most of these references are lost to time and don't make sense to reactors today. O'Brien also made the "threat" based on the sexual revolution that was going on at the time. The opening song - Science Fiction, Double Feature - references several of the movies that are referenced in this movie...The Day The Earth Stood Stll, Flash Gordon, King Kong and so on. I also wanted to mention that you were talking about the style of musical this is. In the late 60s and early 70s, stage musical had embodied a new style called the "rock opera". Examples would be Tommy by The Who, The Wall by Pink Floyd and even Jesus Christ Superstar by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. O'Brien just followed in that then current style. I'll stop now.
