v7c43: A Tao Tale

Divines bless your kind heart!

Beggar of Freedom

Poor Wa Shi not getting snacks before Jin arrived. That dragon is practically famished!

Cheng Yang, the Young Master of the Framed Sun Sect, was hesitant to take pictures of Master Jin without permission. Tao is a mortal, in the presence of all the sects of the Azure Hills, and attending the visit of someone he currently believes is a Cloudy Sword Sect Elder. Tao is not risking getting thrown out, here...or worse. Without explicit permission (or at least, without a number of other people doing the same), I don't see him deciding to take pictures.

Gray Code

Whoa Whoa Whoa. Hold the phone. Tao the Traveler just said he was friends with the Song Brothers, that he bought an Image Crystal on the Image Master's recommendation. The same Image Master who got most of his ideas on photography from Jin. Jin who loves dropping the β€œProfound Wisdom” of Earth. No way would Ren not have told Tao the Profound Wisdom that is β€œPictures Or It Didn't Happen.” Therefor, Tao should be whipping out his Image Crystal and snapping pics like crazy at the end of the chapter.

I love this! You really know how to weave these people together! Thanks for the chapter!

idk, he is trying pretty hard not to influence politics too much and he is already showing his approval by being there/being sworn sibling with xiulan. saying it outright would feel over the top for him (imo) and kind of disingenuous

Hahaha! I ADORED this chapter!!! So much subtle humor! And so much subtly conveyed but not outright told. 😘. Superb! Thanks for. Delightful read!!

The one thing that I would change for Jin’s greeting is that he should make a comment on how pleased he with the forming of the alliance and how proud it makes him to call the azure hills his home.

Im not finding a whole lot online about it tbh, and even less from properly credible sources, but my best guess is that its based on the Chinese folklore about 5 toed dragons representing the Emperor and being the origin of all dragons and the closer they are to China the more toes they have. Chinese dragons have 5 toes, Korean dragons have 4, and Japanese have 3. Ofc in Japanese folklore Japan has 5, China 4, and Korea 3. Apparently 5 toes is the ruling line, while 4 represents lesser princes and higher nobles, hence Wa Shi being a prince. All I can find for that though are scattered folklore forums and reddit posts, couldn't find any real reads on the topic. So if its similar in this story, maybe it implies Wa Shi is related to the Emperor in some distant way or a powerful dragon that once did or does back the Empire or it could just mean he has more potential than most for growth or somethin idk ofc.

I wonder why 4 toes on a dragon makes Wa Shi a prince. Are there dragons with 3 toes instead that didnt claim their evolution/power the proper way?
