Six Feet Under Season 5 Episode 5 FULL REACTION!

Comments

She was not listening to her telling her about Lisa 💀 I guess that's how parenting differs because I would've waited like 3 years

Madvision

True. It’s painful to see them this way considering how close they became in previous seasons. It’s also understandable considering the low Claire is in at this point in her life after school & Billy.

Paris Hardy

Oh, and related to Ruth and Claire: The two of them originally fell out because Claire dropped out of school and wanted to be with Billy and now, this episode, Claire is not in school and not with Billy, hanging around the house smoking pot, watching TV, and scrounging from the fridge. Of course Ruth is upset with her.

Colleen Hamilton

Brenda is completely right: Maya is definitely old enough to start hearing an age appropriate story about Lisa. They should have photos around the house and answer her questions about them. People think that kids don't become people until they get older, but they know and see so much. She didn't go about it the right way, but I'm glad Brenda gave Nate the push he needed to see that he was avoiding the topic of Lisa for himself, not for Maya.

Colleen Hamilton

Exactly! It’s such a wild ride coming back to these characters over a decade of life experiences later!

Paris Hardy

Oof . I’m so glad they didn’t leave the country together. My god.

Paris Hardy

In a way that’s part of what I love about this show (especially as I age in relation to the characters over time).

That's so true and I hate it, he should've learned by now to grow up, it's actually insane how this show is written sometimes makes it annoying, but maybe it's actually realistic for people to act the same for a long time and not change because many people are like that irl

Madvision

Nate’s always gonna Nate. For 5 seasons he has Nated. Single whiff of frustration in whatever relationship he is in and he suddenly meets a woman who seems really “wise” and easy to talk to. Remember Rabbi Ari in season two?

Eat the peach (I think) is sort of the metaphor here for toxic non communication family dynamics and those are on display in full with everyone. Manipulation, lies, control and even within all of the unspoken - the “peach” still gets eaten. Ruth and Claire make me sad but it’s also beautifully written and expressed the conflict between mothers and daughters at the age of flight. Ruth is scared for Claire and wants to protect her but can’t communicate her anxieties so she’s just mad. She is controlling Claire’s future with money but simultaneously is resentful that Claire is pouting in her room. But ALSO in another universe Claire could have had access to that money to move to Spain with Billy and what would that look like now?

What in the Godfather accent is absolutely right!! 😂 Rico always puts on that fake macho voice when he’s trying to be slick or thinks he knows better than everyone. He was so wrong for what he did & I’m glad Vanessa chewed his ass . Next on to Billy & his mother. Actually it kinda ties together with Rico’s actions too! They are so manipulative & don’t respect or understand boundaries. This episode really highlighted why it’s good that Brenda has minimized her relationship with Billy & their mother. You’re absolutely right that Claire was going to be put in the same messed up position Brenda was in as Billy’s caretaker. I’m glad she cut it off! Lastly Ruth & Claire are going through it & I hate to see it because they got so close in season 2+3. Claire is at a point in her life where she’s ready to break out of the nest & be on her own, but she’s trapped because of the money. Ruth thought she had finally found happiness, but she feels trapped because of George’s illness. The parallel between mother & daughter is too real!
