Sarah and her husband, Martin, were living alone at home after their daughter, Jessica, was attending school out of town. After several months, Martin had been infected with the shrinking virus, and it was Sarah who found him, while lying on the couch, between her toes after he tried to get her attention, almost dying in the attempt.
Sarah had to take care of him, and while some people prefer to simply ignore them and forget about those affected, she never thought of doing something like that to him. Sarah preferred not to tell her daughter about this, so as not to worry her and interfere with her studies.
But one morning, something unexpected happened. Sarah woke up. Although her bed felt different, it was surrounded by a white, plush, and warm surface. The smell was strange, as if her feet hadn't been cleaned in days, until she strangely heard Martin's voice.
Sarah, unfortunately, had been infected with the virus, lying exposed on the floor. When Martin found her, he carried her unconscious to one of her giant slippers, where they would spend the rest of the night.
As the days passed, the tiny couple wandered around the gigantic house, which seemed uninhabited; no one knew what had happened to them. Occasionally, some women from the neighborhood knocked on the door, but there was never a response. The hope that someone would find them faded with the passing days, while their options for food dried up.
One morning, completely depressed, something caught their attention when they heard the front door creak in the distance. Someone had entered.
"Hello? Mom... Dad? Are you here?"
Jessica's angelic voice could be heard throughout the house, and Sarah and Martin began running around looking for their daughter, who had unexpectedly arrived for a visit.
Jessica noticed the house was a little different, the furniture covered in dust and the floor completely dirty. Only a pair of her mother's white slippers were under the sofa. She walked slowly down the hallway to her room, puzzled by the situation; it was as if her parents no longer lived there.
As she walked and looked around, she could never see or hear her tiny parents running between her feet, screaming as loudly as they could. But they were so insignificant to her own daughter that she simply walked until she reached her room.
Nothing had changed since she left. Jessica threw her suitcase on the floor and began to change into something more comfortable. Sarah and Martin were shocked by what had happened; their daughter had returned home and couldn't even see them. They both thought it was too risky to try to get her attention while she was walking, so they decided to hide and wait for the best moment when she was still to make themselves known to her.
After half an hour, Jessica left her room and began wandering through the hallways of her house. She walked barefoot across the floor, dirt sticking to the soles of her feet. Without any idea, her tiny parents were watching her footsteps, hiding under one of the pieces of furniture, but they heard a strange sound behind them.
An ant was approaching them, which, for someone like Jessica, is a minor issue, is extremely dangerous for tinies. Without a second thought, the tiny couple ran away, not caring at all.
"Oh my God! We have to hide in..."
CRUSHHH...
Without a chance to react, Jessica's foot fell on her parents. She didn't even feel anything; she just kept going, the remains of the tiny couple mingling with the dirt on her foot.
Jessica couldn't find her parents, some of the neighbors talked to her, telling her it was as if her parents had disappeared. All this while the girl tapped her foot on the floor, without any of them knowing about the remains of her parents on her dirty soles.
