I think you have a good balance on the scars - they are visible, but can be ignored for people who don't want to think about a potential real cause for being armless. With advances of plastic surgery, there are current ways to explain being armless without visible scarring as well, and as a potential "path" you could take would be that when you lost your arms, you couldn't afford the plastic surgery to minimize the scars, but in the future plastic surgery could be done to reduce the scarring. Having watched Ratatouille recently, I'm reminded of something that you might consider as an option for backstory. One of the characters is an ex-prisoner, but the reason for them being in prison changes from telling to telling. One of the reasons might be "true", but how much research is worth it to prove the character is lying? The details don't affect their current work, so digging would only expend effort and possibly anger someone that could kill the person doing the digging.

In real life, it is possible to have near-invisible scars, and I could even see a possible (maybe not likely) future where the scars have faded to near-invisibility due to plastic surgery and/or time minimizing the scars.

2024-01-10 06:40:59 +0000 UTCI understand where your coming from, but for me personally the scars just makes it too real to enjoy, at least with your preveous works the silliness of their armless-ness made it seem like they consented to it in a weird way, partly damned also had this problem.
