Lost Artifact

Martin, now Mary, sat in melancholy contemplation on the swing in their backyard. The shock of the news now washing away into a lingering hopelessness.
Martin’s wife, Beth, had been a member of the museum staff packing up old artifacts for transfer. One item was a curious box that held a jeweled button. Very anachronistic of it’s time. As she cleaned the dust before packing it for shipping, she pressed the button but thought nothing of it.
At that moment, Martin, at home found himself transformed into a woman! Everyone remembered him as Mary and even his daughter remembered growing up with two moms. Only Beth remembered Martin the man.
By the time they realized what had caused the transformation, “The Button” was on a ship bound for Japan. Beth made arrangements for access to the artifacts when they arrived and booked a flight. It was just a matter of time that Martin would have to remain as Mary.
The ship was hijacked off the horn of Africa. The Pirates looted everything. Mary just learned that The Button was lost. She would be a woman forever.
