At 10, when the other children were put to work on the harvest, Jason 13 spent his time working on an automation system that increased yields by 3x! After that, Jason 13 was spared physical labor so that he had time to invent.
By 18, Jason 13 was one of the most productive citizens on their new world. As the time of pairing approached, Jason was sure that he would be matched with one of the healthiest and most beautiful girls.
The Colony elders thought otherwise. Jason 13’s mind was unmatched but he was small and weak. If he could be bred with the biggest and strongest citizen, their offspring would be superior. The biggest and strongest was Mark 9.
By the authority of the colony charter, in service to the mission, old Earth’s rebalance laws were used to force Jason 13’s involuntary feminization and breed-pairing to Mark 9.
It is Jason 13’s wedding day, though she is now called Eve 1. In a moment of quiet before the ceremony, she bitterly understands that this was done to her because she shined so bright. It’s a lesson hard learned. One she will pass down to the children she is mandated to have with Mark 9. “Keep your head down, do not shine, or they will snuff you out!”
