Some models are shy and other are the opposite. Bernadette is loud, self-confident and fun. I had this idea of photographing a series in the streets of Frankfurt. I named the series Alley Cat, even before I took the images. This was all well-prepared. I found a street artist who prepared the alley cat bracelet for me, bought all the styling and even made the shoes look older by dragging them through the streets while riding my bike.
I wanted a kind of retro vibe with the images. Something to remind the 80s - a decade I really love.
And Bernadette was perfect for this. I was among the first photographers to shoot her (back in 2007 or so) and did not think she could make it as a Playmate. But she did. She was so eager and confident, it was great.
When we were between the old tower blocks, Bernadette burped so loudly that I had to laugh. And a few people came out onto the balcony to see what was going on.
But the best part was when we took photos right in front of my house on the jetty. Bernadette approached a handyman because we didn't have a key. He was repairing a boat and she called down: “Unlock the door for us. We have a photo shoot here.”. He didn't understand straight away. But she was so persuasive that he came and unlocked the door for us.
