Hello my Sweethearts!
I'm finally here to share with small story about how first photo was made. And with before/after comparison. )
This shot is not the hardest one I worked on so far. The best thing in photography is, when planned shot was made in first attempt. Ofcourse we plan light schemes for every project before the shoot, but you can't be always fully prepared, because set may appear different in reality.
That means we first try what we planned and than, what we can actually use. But it was different for this specific shot, so everything went acording to plan. )
When we first planned Widowmaker project, crucial part of it was character's skin color. There were two options: actually paint her skin in purple-ish color or make it later on post-production.
First variant was irrelevant due to several reasons: compressor with airbrush for bodypainting weights about 6,5 kg. Our full equipment weights 15 kg, with costumes and props 24 kg. Another 6,5 kg felt a bit too much in the end )
And acording to our plan there was not much time, if only there are not
any professional around. There wasn't any )
Costume for Widowmaker is too hot, so paint tended to wash away during planning. Checked by me. ) And washed by me. And again washed. And again.
So we decided to paint skin on post-production. Skin must have as "natural" color as possible. I was searching for closest reference in real life and there is real term for purple-ish color of skin. It is called "Argyria" or " Argyrosis", term for certain skin condition after impact of silver dust or silver elements.
Just google it, if interested )
Blue-ish reference was just regular "Cyanosis", which happens due to bad oxygen and blood circulation.
Both of them in their own way look a bit scary, so I chose mid point, where I saved
a bit of original skin color in overall tone.
To make my model look more close to original character, I changed a bit facial form, eyes and improved body shape. You saw her in game, it should be done. I think backstage will show more to you )
Fun fact: eyes on widowmakers helmet and rifle were made from light diods and
empty containers of contact lenses.
Another fan fact: I put fake tattoo on model's body on set, but later I needed to remove her own real tattoo. Сirculation of tattoos in nature )
Hope it was interesting to read this post. In one of my next post, I'm going to share with photos from backstage!
Autumn is not over, but we already have -20 C here in Siberia. As we call it in Russia "Dog cold" - it is so cold, that even dog doesn't want to go outside. )
So from my perspective, please take proper care of yourself. No matter cold or hot at your place, you can catch a cold everywhere and anytime.
Stay healthy and happy! )
