Poll: The Victory Lap
Added 2020-12-16 00:36:41 +0000 UTCA while ago we asked you about the types of content that you guys engage with the most, and while a lot of the responses were about what we expected, something really stood out to me: that post-combat scenes were about the second-lowest ranked type of content in the game. I think we'd all more or less assumed that was a big cornerstone to the game's appeal, but maybe that's not the case. Or maybe it's more nuanced that just whether you like them at all or you don't?
So I'd like to drill down a little deeper into that, if you'll humor me:

2021-06-16 16:00:09 +0000 UTCI personally love the post combat stuff. It’s always interesting fighting a new enemy and seeing what it’ll do if I lose or win. I do skim through ones that I’m not really into kink wise, or for ones I’ve seen already. I missed the poll sadly, but I do deliberately lose to every new enemy just to see the post combat stuff at least once.

2020-12-20 21:40:44 +0000 UTCPost-combat content is my absolute favorite part of the game. I confess that I'll skip through ones that involve fetishes or characters I'm not particularly into (or feeling at that moment), but there's a lot of it that I read over and over, at every opportunity. I agree with TC that I'd love to see more scenes involving companions. You don't have to write every character into every scene, but having them sprinkled about a little more often would be great!

2020-12-20 11:23:45 +0000 UTCI know this is a little bit late, I was in the hospital but I generally will read through them a few times until i catch all the variations and then i skip them, It would be wonderful to have a toogle in the menu for fast forward or skip those scenes if you've read them before for the grinding or generic combat that you get when you reach end game

2020-12-17 02:09:42 +0000 UTCI make sure to read like all of them at least once but like.... I don't know, when I'm leveling I'm just not going to read if its the same mob. I would appreciate more post-combat scenes involving companions. More than just Arona grabbing a fallen harpy. Stuff like Kiyoko commenting on things in the rift. Or more development with the rider queen.

2020-12-16 20:41:33 +0000 UTCI actually wish there were more loss scenes involving companions. I think that would go far in adding variety to post combat so it isn't always the same few scenes every time.

2020-12-16 20:41:08 +0000 UTCI'm with BloodRaven, I will almost always read a new scene, but once I've read it a time or two it usually just gets skipped over.

2020-12-16 17:47:25 +0000 UTCRead it once, then I usually read it only if its something I'm looking for. With the glut of noncombat relative "Immediate" alternatives with interesting characters, lots of care, and attachment to them, I'm not interested in having sex with the harpies or marefolk or anything like that. The Mercenaries and a few other are exceptions but thats because I also "know them" off duty. The big thing is that I'm also trying to get somewhere, and do something and learn more about the plot, so having fun with the post combat encounters is just a time sink that I'm trying to avoid. This is mostly because combat is not satisfying and hard to follow.

2020-12-16 15:03:30 +0000 UTCAs an orally fixated dude, I really enjoy reading all the BJ centric scenes from all the post combat encounters. I'm sad when it's not one of the choices haha

2020-12-16 11:58:21 +0000 UTCEchoing what others are saying here, for CoC 1/2, and TiTS, read everything the first several times, and then start looking for other stuff. It's part of why I subscribe for as long as I have- supporting both projects keeps new content coming regularly.

2020-12-16 06:08:05 +0000 UTCAnd touching purely on the post battle scenes it would be nice here and there if there were a minor variant or two tossed into the standard scenes, like sometimes paragraph 3a is suddenly 3b this time, scene still ends up in the same place, nothing really changes, just a slightly different event kinda branches out before going back into the regular scene. Again though, that's a ton of work to make it flow with even more stuff, and just wishful thinking on my part :)

2020-12-16 05:20:50 +0000 UTCWhile the post-combat scenes are wonderfully written, especially in defeat scenes, I'll usually only read the options two or three times (once for each gender, and then maybe once more if they're especially spicy), before they get in the way. Because this is a grind game, in several ways, the post-combat scenes take up time after a while, so no matter how great I thought they were the first time around, by the time another playthrough comes around, the scenes have become redundant to me. That's not to say I won't want to scroll through them again later, but since most of them won't have an effect on my gameplay, they get forgotten while I'm trying to get to the next level. Personally, the encounter scenes with recurring characters are the biggest draw for me, since most of them end up with you forming a bond with those characters. I feel like I'm making progress with these scenes, rather than just passing through to get loot or EXP. Same thing with companions; even if it doesn't change your relationship with them directly, at least you're interacting with the characters you've come to care about, and seeing something outside of their direct choices.

2020-12-16 05:19:29 +0000 UTCI usually read them 3 or 4 times, but you can really only go through the dialogue so many times before you can memorize what's about to throw down. In certain cases, these are more appealing than others so I think they're definitely worth your time, but on the flip side, I love having more development for your companions or more important recurring NPCs as opposed to the combat ones. That being said, if there were some more progressive combat scenes like Ninian is (think him or Arona are some of the only ones) then they'd have more overall value in the long term. Not necessarily companion recruitment, but just something a bit extra to give them more depth than just fighting fuck tools that some of them are currently.

2020-12-16 05:18:29 +0000 UTCI usually fully read most post battle scenes at least once, but the ones that interest me the most are the ones that change over time and the ones that seem like they're going somewhere. For example, Kuro's scenes change once she decides to stop fighting you and take on a new flavor. As for the ones that 'seem like they're going somewhere', I mean characters like the drake hunter in the foothills whose name i can't spell, changes a bit over time, and there's that little gray button that will presumably lead to a new thing later. Or other encounters like the chimera in the Rift, the Manticore, the Lupine scouts, encounters that just seem like that they could at some point expand into more dialog, even more sexytime encounters, and lead into them becoming more realized characters, instead of just a random encounter. And yes, that's a crap ton of work, and i know most encounters are just that, but I get excited anytime i see a previously random encounter suddenly getting expanded on and becoming a character, like Lusamine and our new sleepy snake-friend. In addition to all new stuff that's a good chunk of what keeps me coming back.
E the Weasel
2020-12-16 05:15:42 +0000 UTCI read them as long as they're in the ballpark of stuff I'm into, but I often won't read them more than a few times, unless they're 100% in my strike zone. After I've seen them once or twice, they need to be REALLY spicy to get me to read it again.

2020-12-16 04:47:40 +0000 UTCChanges such as this would bring a deeper depth to the characters and allow the player to see the content change based on the direction events take. This is the sort of thing that would keep me invested in the game and I think elevate the game itself.

2020-12-16 03:38:36 +0000 UTCI read the post combat stories after each encounter, unless they are repeats with no variation. So of then I enjoy and will use pervious saves to repeat them and some like the cultists in the happy valley region, I by-passed after the first couple of times through. I would like to see some continuations of some of the minor characters with expansion of the previous content. Example. the Elf guard and her warg that you encountered upon the first approach to the Winter city. The after battle content with her was interesting, and it would be a nice event to encounter her again now that you are the Champion of the Winter City and see her post battle content expanded for the change of circumstance.

2020-12-16 02:43:55 +0000 UTCIt's pretty weird that I play this game at all, to be honest, as it is very difficult to read the text. It's just a block of time new roman. Maybe something can be done for readability, like indents or a different font? Also the point of random battles is to grind them out. I'd say ditch the flavour of the trash mobs, and invest that energy in specific ones. For example, have the wasp bimbos flirt during the fight but then just be left unless i specifically choose to do something. Then have a few 'major' wasps in a specific part of the woods i can trigger intenionally.

2020-12-16 02:32:37 +0000 UTCPost-combat scenes are a huge, major draw for me! I think an element of it being lower is that these don't necessarily involve a 'character' so much as an 'idea'. For example the raiders are characters as we interact with and get to know them in town. The horse girl with her tree friend is only that. She's an idea so once you're done with her like two times there's nothing else to gleam or expand upon.
Trinoko
2020-12-16 02:15:34 +0000 UTCi usually read the post combat scenes attentively the first time i trigger them, then ignore them until i want to reread a specific one, which i then go hunt down. This does happen quite often though, the post-combat scenes are definitely a big draw of the game. Especially the ones that progress when triggering them consequently

2020-12-16 02:13:50 +0000 UTCI honestly try to get every in and out of combat scene (and sometimes every variation) due to how many times I’ve been surprised by how good a scene was. That said my by far favorite thing in this game is combat loss scenes with companions. While I know it would be tedious as fuck and I would never expect it, if every enemy had a loss scene for your companions I’d be in heaven. It just kind of makes sense to me that in a world where everything is horny your companions would go through the same stuff as you. I’ll definitely go back to certain places or load older saves to re read scenes (like the imps in the frost hound, that scene is god tier)

2020-12-16 02:12:50 +0000 UTCI think the only times I skip through post combat and exploration scenics are when I'm grinding for item drops or specific encounters, and even then I'll still end up reading most of them anyway even when I can practically quote them 🤣. The amount of detail that have gone into these games is staggering and even after repeated playthroughs I still find myself stopping to take it all in. Maybe I'm just a depraved, horny little man and a sucker for world building and character interactions, and yes sexy fun times, or the hundreds of hours I sunk into the first CoC have fully indoctrinated me, but I just can't help re-reading them. I do agree that having your companions take a more active roll in the scenes or simply participating more often would be a great addition. Though it's honestly more of a nitpick of a beautiful world than anything, in my humble opinion more companion involvment is never a bad thing 🙃

2020-12-16 01:56:28 +0000 UTCI’ll hunt for defeat scenes that suit my fancy but i tend to like my characters on the sub-ier side so i don’t re-read most of the scenes i didn’t mean to trigger.

2020-12-16 01:33:29 +0000 UTCUnless it's something I am specifically looking for or enjoy: I read unique/event scenes every time. I read repeating post-combat scenes the first time. I usually skip through them after I know what they say, but usually see what each response/scene is.

2020-12-16 01:16:38 +0000 UTCMost post combats I don't actually choose one of the scenes. I tend to choose the scenes depending on my mood but I'll usually go to consenual encounters with companions or other NPCs more. Though because the victory scenes are usually more dominant if I'm in the mood for specifically enjoying a combat scene I'll often save my game and purposefully lose encounters to be on the submissive end of the scene.

2020-12-16 01:13:46 +0000 UTCMobs/Cait is basically my sexual OTP, especially when Cait is on the winning side. I enjoy being able to sit back and voyeurize my companions taking advantage because it shows their personality off and also conveniently resets their Resolve. Threesomes are also very nice but there is an appeal to Cait, Brint, Arona, and Berry taking their own initiative with minimal prompting, and I'd love to see more of it with Quin or ideally, some nice hand-holding marital enemy draining with Kiyoko, and maybe even Atugia, if she was really low on Resolve, although I accept it'd be a little out of character for her. Haven't seen enough of Azzy to form an opinion, and poor Ryn has very few ways to make someone else help her out, even if she wanted to.

2020-12-16 01:00:06 +0000 UTCThe biggest thing, I think, is how I feel when the post combat scenes show up. I do read most of the post combat scenes, especially if it's something I'm really into or something that just trips my trigger at that time. But if it's something I'm not super into or just something that's happened too often I may skip it or just choose not to engage if it's a victory one. The happened too often thing is the biggest one for me, especially when the options aren't something I'm feeling into at the moment.

2020-12-16 00:58:00 +0000 UTCGenerally will read the post combat scenes 2 to 3 times or if I become the dark Knight type to see if there's a change but after you've read a scene a couple times especially the more common enemies than it's just something you skip through.

2020-12-16 00:55:10 +0000 UTCI enjoy the post-combat scenes, but after the first few times of a given scene I will just skip through it because I've already read it. I will sometimes come back to re-read when I feel like it, though.
