Re: Corona— Be Smart.
Added 2020-03-13 20:44:10 +0000 UTCI think most of you know I work in hotel, and with occupancy so low, my hours have been slashed— they’ve only given me one day to work next week 😳. 20 housekeepers were laid off yesterday, who knows what that means for me in the coming weeks, but so many people in my industry, the theater industry, etc are all going to be hit financially pretty hard.
I thank you all for your support here which will will especially assist in the coming weeks. But what’s more important is to do everything we can to slow the spread whether than means stopping ourselves from getting exposed if we haven’t been or preventing us from passing it on to others.
I initially thought the media was merely blowing this out of proportion and causing unnecessary panic. Then person in my hotel‘s building has been rushed to the hospital with the virus. Plus working around so many tourists and having been in so many crowded areas in the last few weeks it’s likely I’ve been exposed. The more I hear and learn about thisI no longer think media is exaggerating.
I think things are about to get quite rough in the next few days/weeks here but hope we all can remain positive and be smart.
“Changing our actions for a short period of time will save the life of one or more people you know. That’s the choice before us. Each of us has extraordinary power to slow the spread of this disease. Not holding that concert or community event can have cascading effects — saving dozens of lives and preserving critical health care resources that your family may need a month from now"
—Gavin Newsome, Governor of California
We each need to take precautions to stop our hospitals from being overrun.
Stay home as much as you can.
I do have a lot of friends in Italy who all have said it is much worse than I/we think. Their hospitals are beyond capacity and doctors literally are choosing who lives and who dies as they don’t have enough defibrillators and have to pick and choose who to use them on.
