Hello Patrons
As mentioned in my last post I'm currently working on your reward images for April which will be released May 8.
While working on my scene setup for Thor I thought to myself: What about some sheets for his bed? Great idea! Because who is sleeping in a bed without sheets? π
So overall I made a GIF which shows how the "blankets" or sheets in general (such as towels for example) are created using blenders internal real time cloth-physic system. If setup correct it lets you create a wide range of special effects that might not seems so special for us since we do this kind of stuff in our real life almost every day such as hanging up a coat in your closet.
However a PC simply doesn't know how to hang up sheets in a way like we humans do so we have to tell the PC: "Hey PC now move this bunch of Polygons to this place so it looks like a towel dropped on the floor" - And this is exactly what blender physics are made for (most of the time).
In this GIF above you'll see the finalized animation playback of the sheets falling on the bed. This animation along with the setup took me around 15 minutes to finalize. In some other cases it can take way longer, depending on your scene setup and sometimes it actually likes to screw up so you have to render the whole animation again... Welp, nothing's perfect I guess π
Once the animation is finished I can seek through the frames and pick the best looking one that I like to use for my finished 3D render. I still can manipulate the finished 3D mesh afterwards if there's something I don't like to see or just adding a little "extra" detail to make it look even better.
Anyways I hope you learned something and stay safe during the lockdown!
