2025-01-11 20:25:59 +0000 UTCI think a lot of it is just brainwashing, and succumbing to the propaganda, those people are probably more victims than anything, but its not helpful when they continue to spread misinformation that they bought into. I think the most frustrating thing for me is the people who should know better. I knew a guy back home, Harvard grad, worked in GOP politics, and was heavily anti-trump until he won in 2016, and then changed his tune in order to protect his lively hood. Actually I knew a few of those. The most frustrating thing for me is those like him (I actually knew a few of them), who just switch up and start going along with it, just so they can get ahead in politics. Very much the JD Vance types.

Probably the most frustrating thing I've ever dealt with in my life is the realization of how absolutely delusional some people can be. How is it that we can all live on the same planet but in totally different realities? I've thought about this a lot (especially over the past 10 years when I personally had to deal with it first-hand). You did kind of touch on it at the end of the video. It comes down to what kind of information people have access to combined with how well they are able to process it. Obviously some people are way better at it than others, but even the most intelligent person you can think of has a brain with finite limitations. So like, to some degree... you can't blame the individuals who've succumbed to their delusions. Yes, it's ultimately an individual's responsibility to protect themselves from festering brain rot. But also the kind of society we build for ourselves plays a huge role in this. One thing I can say with certainty is that shaming these people doesn't work. It's almost exactly like shaming an obese person for their poor health decisions. That kind of approach rarely motivates a person to change but instead creates a defensive and adversarial relationship with that person (as you got to witness). Still... how on earth are we supposed to have any kind of compassion for these people? I still haven't figured that one out after 10 years. So much pointless suffering going on.

Civics education is at an all-time low, and too many people are repeating lies that just some guy on 4Chan made up, and has somehow gone mainstream. Its something so much of my family, and old friends have gotten sick with, and its exhausting trying to keep them grounded in reality, especially when they push back.
