2024-12-19 09:05:12 +0000 UTCThe duality of Kant is fascinating to me. Because he is both so good but so bad at this. He can lie and manipulate like breathing air, but he did not think that their super secret hitman hide out would have cameras? Or back to the last episode of him just taking pictures of random stuff- like he is so out of his depth here, he is so inexperienced. Both also the lying and manipulating comes so easy to him! And I think that transfers to his feeling for Bison too. He is confident as fuck, but he is so lost and inexperienced. It’s so damn intriguing to watch. I also have so many thoughts on Fadel in this episode, but they are currently clouded over by… the Fadel of it all. Imma have to recover before I sort through those.

2024-12-19 08:19:20 +0000 UTCHahahah I've edited my comment so many times cos of poor impulse control and lots of Feelings that I struggle to put into words so I'm glad it was even vaguely coherent! But there are two analyses which do a MUCH better job if you're interested: https://sunsetsover.tumblr.com/post/770260158826921984/the-more-this-show-goes-on-the-more-i-just and https://fadelbison.tumblr.com/post/770242915930865664/i-think-the-story-actually-does-so-well-in-its (the latter does a particularly good and devastating job of comparing the relationships). Thank you for humouring me!

2024-12-19 04:01:11 +0000 UTCwoah this is my fav analysis of Kant that I've seen you really smashed it. I see him in a renewed light now actually!! The proof will be in the pudding for me as to how he shifts into a more open, vulnerable state and how must destruction is wrought when that happens. I'm looking forward to it!

Hello Hello
2024-12-18 23:42:20 +0000 UTCReliable sources say Kant is actually calling Fadel 'brother-in-law' in the scene where he's asking for his help, which makes it ten times funnier! Thank you for your reaction, it's the highlight of my week (just behind the ep itself!). It's interesting, I'm usually doom and gloom but here I'm able to look forward to the angst, which I have no doubt will be utterly soul-destroying, precisely because I'm feeling pretty chill about them being able to reconcile. Partly cause of the multiple assurances it's a rom-com, but also because the way I see it, everything started off on a lie, on all sides, and everyone is still lying to varying degrees about something (ok it's not feelings-based, but withholding you kill ppl for a living IS a pretty big deal!), but more importantly, at the end of the day, someone KNOWING you kill ppl for a living, falling in love with you anyway, despite their better judgement, and then (presumably, in future eps) making the choice to stick with you regardless has GOT to count for something - you can't get more warts and all than that! I know you talked about forgetting the context for a second, and I understand what you mean, but I think, within this story, the saving grace will be that the characters themselves aren't able to do that - the context is what makes and breaks it. The forgiveness will come from understanding the why of it all. E.g. I'd love to see Fadel end up sympathising with Kant because everything he did was for his little bro. I don't know, I just have faith that ultimately, after a lot of tears and rage and second-guessing and grovelling and maybe the odd cathartic gunshot injury (or near-drowning if the trailer's anything to go by!), they'll realise they're all the perfect amount of fucked up for each other! Sorry for the essay. I hope my perhaps warped optimism helps you feel a little better about the future. Or alternatively we just go with Khaotung's approach: https://x.com/mitsuhasparkle/status/1864939017583669300 Edit: I forgot to say re. Kant's lying - that makes me curious as to how long he's been doing the Captain's dirty work. Because he's not great at improvising when he's called out, but he's clearly got practice with the planned lie, and, like you said, it seems lying is almost a reflex even when it doesn't need to be, e.g. when Bison first asked about James. Which just makes me really sad because it implies he's spent so long putting up a front, whether it be for Babe as his de facto parent or for the undercover stuff he does for CC, that he's forgotten how to be real and honest and, especially, vulnerable. Which is why you can see him shut that part of himself down whenever he realises he's slipping (and of course it's only really in those rare moments of honesty that Bison properly lets his own guard down - the tragedy of it all!!!). It explains his love life consisting of one night stands, cos he never lets anyone in any further. The parallels tween him and Fadel are crazy if you think about it - both orphans, both manipulated by an authority figure and coerced into doing one last job before they're free even though they know on some level it's a scam, both motivated by the need to protect their younger brothers, but I'd go so far as to say that whereas Fadel has been able to envisage a future/love for himself, separate from Bison, first with mystery lover, and now perhaps with Style, the same can't be said for Kant, which is partly why he's more adamant about sticking to the mission than Style is - for starters the stakes are higher for him because of the blackmail/Babe, but also because he doesn't allow himself to even imagine another way out. He's the most hopeless of them all! You can see he doesn't even believe his own words when he says they just need to get this done and then everything will be fine. He's so tired, he's so resigned to his own fate, and that breaks my heart. (There's also the fact that Style went in ignorant of the whole assassin business, so that allowed him space to develop feelings that weren't tainted by the truth, whereas from the start Kant has basically been existing in a constant state of conflicted flux, veering wildly tween horny and terrified!). He's my favourite. There, I said it! Unpopular opinion, I know, but I'm speaking my truth!
