Group Commission Thoughts and Future Ideas

Sup all. First off, I want to say I am sorry for not posting for a while, but that's partly due to this big commission that I want to talk about. I’m going to do my best to start posting more stuff for you guys to enjoy.

As for the big group commission, I think it went well, but it could have been a lot smoother. For one, I think I took on way too many people at once, and I didnt have a direction for the picture from the start. I kind of just bs my way through the whole thing, and that slowed me down even more. I do want to try this again in the future, but I need to plan it out better and cap the character limit at 6 or something. At first I thought this was going to be simple and fast, but no. This was like taking on 5 commissions at once. It’s a lot of sketching, inking, and coloring all at once. Yeah, in my head, it seems like having all of that work on one page would make things go fast, but no... It’s not at all.

For the future, I am going to take a more YCH approach to a project like this. I will have at max, 4-6 characters in it and the poses will be prerendered, that way you guys can just pick the place you want your OC to go. This will cut down on the constant sketching over and over again to try and make things work with what everyone wants and help to get it out smoother.

Tl;dr: The project was too big and needs to be scaled down for next time so you guys aren’t waiting a month for new content.

Since that commission is now done, I’m going to try and get some simple stuff out fast so you guys have some more things to enjoy! Like that comic I started! Going to do the next page soon.

Yeah I agree! I think that is what I will try next time if I do something like this again. <3

The YCH approach and prerendered poses to choose from sounds like a great idea. A lot of artists I know do this and it works out great for the artist & the commissioner to get the drawings done faster & both parties already know what to expect, avoiding all the nick-picky stuff some commissioners tend to put the artists through that delays the big project. Thanks for the update.
