Luigi & The Musician: Episode 5 (Animatic)

Only changes I'll make to this in post is holding some beats longer. After watching this I realized some visual info goes by too quick. Other than that I'm pleased the way this turned out. The VA for Waluigi did a great job. He's a very dear friend of mine, and I've been trying to make something he could voice in, and I think this is a good start. Not bad for a debut.

Wario & The Bandit

Episode 4 is here! Big shout out to the patrons old and new. Really appreciate the support. This is my favorite script so far. Longest one yet too. There's a sweet spot around the 4 minute mark in the writing process, since you spend the first minute or so setting everything up; it gives you so many opportunities to do rapid fire jokes that build off of the setup. Episode 5 will be shorter, but once this gets to a place where I can hire I want to try again at writing around the 4 minute length. Enjoy!

Wario & The Bandit: Animatic

This one is a minute longer than the average 3 I typically go for, but I think I'll still be able to get it finished in the same schedule. Wario's mouth is rigged, a number of the compositions are reused, and I tried to spend a lot of time on layouts this time around to be smart and economic about the animation. May have to cut a joke or two, but I'm gonna aim to do the whole thing.

Wario & The Bandit (Script)

Dialing up the gags in this one to a considerable degree. Really looking forward to working on and releasing this one.

Farewell to Pirates

This is just a new arrangement of the same track from Wario Land II. That soundtrack as a whole has a cartoonishly cinematic quality that lends itself well to being production music for these animations. I plan to use more from this game in the future.

Frozen Seaweed

This is a mash-up of 'Vanilla Lake' from Super Mario Kart with 'Seaweed' from SpongeBob. The melody from Vanilla Lake is simplified by removing the harmony, and the rhythm changed to accommodate the style of Seaweed better.

Quick Announcement

There was a wave of new people after the release of episode 3, and I saw an increase in demand for the music to be available. I'm gonna get all the tracks so far uploaded today for purchase to the free/non-members. If you are a member you can find the music in the discord that's available for download.

Thank you all again for your support. Seems like the trajectory is climbing upward with everything. Have a great day. The music will be available shortly.

Mario, Luigi, & The Magikoopa: Kingdom Fables #3

This one was fun to write. Really like how the Koopadamus character turned out, and Shawn did a great job with him in the booth.

I'll post some goodies from this one, and I'll have a script for the 4th one up here soon. The voice lines are recorded too. Episode 5 is halfway written as well. The pipeline is movin'.

Thanks for your patience and support on this one. May was an insane month for me this year.

EP 3 Animatic

Figured out my computer problem that led to the delay, so that won't happen again. One fun aspect about pulling these sketches from Aesop's Fables is choosing what Mario character to replace the original with and consequently how that develops their character in this series.

Luigi is slowly becoming a witty wise-guy that no one can get one over on, sort of in the spirit of Bugs Bunny. In the moral/amoral distinction Luigi is the wise against the trickster and Mario the upright against the wicked. Mario seems to work as a more naive adventurer doing the right thing.

I like Wario being someone who may appear to do the right thing, but his intentions are wicked and self-centered. Episode 4 will feature him again and it'll play with this idea some more.

I have a Luigi vs. Waluigi episode planned which will be my version of The Ant and the Grasshopper which will reveal Waluigi as one who demands good things by stoking pity in others and Luigi won't be having any of it. This one might be episode 5 or 6 depending on how quickly I find the right voice actor for him. He'll have a thick French accent.

Frozen Seaweed (Demo)

This one will be in EP 3 along with Croco Plains. It's a mash-up of SpongeBob's 'Seaweed' with the Vanilla Lake theme from Super Mario Kart.

The second track is an example of how the melody transforms to a different style while still maintaining it's familiarity.

Croco Plains (Demo)

This is a mash up of Gator (Spongebob) and the Donut Plains theme from Super Mario Kart. I call this a demo, because I'm waiting for a guy on fiverr to get back to me about recording it with a lap guitar. Want it to sound real nice instead of just midi.

Episode 3 Script

This one is very dialogue heavy. It's basically just one conversation. Ep 1 served as a proof of concept, 2 worked to showcase some character dynamics and slapstick, and for this one I want to hone in on comedic dialogue and gags. The upside will be that the animation should be quicker if things aren't moving around as much, and I will have very few backgrounds to draw since they stay in the same spot. The mouth packs for Mario and Luigi are already made too. Should be able to get this done by the 23rd no problem.

Update on Ep. 3

Voice lines are in for episode 3. I finished the thumb boards last night, and I'm gonna try and clean as many as I can today. My goal is to get the animatic done by Friday night. I'm gonna post (today or tomorrow) all of the music that was made for ep 2 so patrons can download them and the free subs can purchase them.

I'll post the script for this coming episode soon as well.

Welcome aboard new patrons! Glad to see a couple new people joined. Don't forget to sign up for the discord. When things start to get into crunch mode I tend to post more updates on there than in here, so keep that in mind if you're looking for updates on progress.

Take care, and have a great day!

Mario, Wario, & The Bear: Kingdom Fables #2

She's all done. Took a bit longer than I anticipated, but now I have face/mouth packs for Mario, Luigi, and Wario, so any episodes featuring them in the future will have some production time cut out of the schedule.

I got the voice lines for episode 3 yesterday. I'll post the script and a couple character sketches on Monday. #3 is called Mario, Luigi, and the Magikoopa. A twist on the 'Two Travelers and the Crow' fable where two men meet a fortune telling crow who's mocked by the travelers for missing an eye.

Quick Look at Ep 2. Edit

Put this together today. Just needs the music and sound effects. If that can be finished by Friday I may do some comp work on Saturday. I want to release this on the web on Sunday afternoon.

Luigi & the Little Fish // Kingdom Fables Ep. 1

Finally done! Thanks for your patience. I should have scheduled another day for sound editing. Learning a lot along the way, and I think things will go smoother on my end for ep 2.

Really looking forward to making more of these, and thank you all again for your support.

Question for Patrons!!!

Would any of you be interested in having hand-drawn notecard storyboards as part of a mailable, physical reward? I'm pretty set on drawing the boards on paper, cause of how easy it is to do anywhere, and I find that phase to be easier to do traditionally than digitally. That being said, at the end of each cartoon I'll have a big stack of 40 or so notecards with some nice clean drawings on each. I could either give the whole thing away to one person, split them up, have individual cards be available to purchase for patrons and non-patrons. Just spit-balling for my first idea on physical rewards. Let me know what you think.

Comment below if you have any thoughts or opinions.

Animatic: Luigi and the Little Fish

This ended up being around 3 minutes. I want to half that for the next one, cause I think this is gonna be a bit of a crunch to get it done on time, but it definitely can be done. Gonna get started on the rough animations now.

Channel Intro

Video #2 for the year. Wanted to make this to give a brief bio about myself, what kind of work I've done, and what people can expect in the immediate future. There's a handful of people out there who have told they that E. Gadd's Garage is something they really look forward to, so I have some info in there about that project being a future possibility as opposed to a present labor.

Back to the grindstone on EP. 1 of Kingdom Fables!

Quick Update

I'm putting the finishing touches on this next video. I'm trying to get it done tonight. It's going to function as a channel intro. There's a bit of a personal bio and much more about the plans for the future and a Kingdom Fables pitch.

I'll have an animatic done for episode 1 (Luigi and the Little Fish) done by Friday. I have all the voice and music lines edited together, so I just need to draw the boards and export them with the audio.

Endless Terror (Production Music)

I've been making some music to build a library to use for future cartoons. If you've ever watched Spongebob you'll notice that they pull the same tunes consistently for certain moments, and not only am I using that model, but I'm even borrowing the arrangements themselves and transforming them by using specific Mario scores.

The piece that this is based off of in the Spongebob Production library is one of the Dramatic Cues, and the actual compositional elements I've imposed on that arrangement comes from the World 8 theme from Mario 3 and there's a string section that's playing the endless stairs theme from Mario 64.

Sample from Announcement Video

Some sample animations from the last few years. Last thing I need to do is to record the video segments with myself, do sound effects, and some editing. The whole video is a brief bio, work history, and plans for the channel.

Then we're on to Kingdom Fables Ep. 1
