I feel like a desirable body part needs to be involved with breathplay, so the thigh smothering seems a lot hotter as a guy is slowly being suffocated to death by thighs rather than choked out by arms or a headscissor

Thigh smother is way too "loose", doesn't feel like a good way to actually manage to asphyxiate someone with. Foot smother even more so
