I think this is the best season in the show. The stuff with Conner is so fucked up and unnatural, but they give an actual reason for it, and it just makes the whole thing more intense.
Season 6 comes close, but this is definitely the best one.

I think that's one of the most interesting aspects of Angel the Series; because that's kind of prevailing opinion of a lot of Buffy fans - that Angel was at best kind of boring and one-dimensional on BtVS, but was then so thoroughly developed and given this rich nuance and depth in his own series, that a lot of fans tend to like this series more by comparison.
And to its credit, the show does the same thing with Cordelia and Wesley. Who would ever expect to adore Wesley as much as most Angel fans do by this point, when he first appears on Buffy? His character arc alone is incredible.
Without AtS, Darla would have been a footnote in the history of the Buffyverse. A toady of the Master who dressed like a catholic schoolgirl and was dusted after 7 episodes; instead of the formidable antagonist she turned out to be.
Most of Faith's redemption arc plays out on Angel. Her breaking down in Angel's arms, begging him to killer her is profound. And then during this season, that pause after Wesley tells her Angelus is back; and she tells him to step away from the glass...
I read a comment once how, when Wesley take her to hunt vampires to get her back into the swing of things, in that moment they become a Watcher and his Slayer, like they were supposed to be. And it's like, holy shit, yes. That thought still gets me.
I'll never understand the people who refuse to watch Angel or can't get into it. It has some of the best writing on television, period.

I never thought we would get here. Ashleigh hated Angel so much during the early days of Buffy. I had just accepted she was never going to watch the show, yet here we are. Neck deep in some the craziest events in the whole series, and I am living for it lol.
