VETERANS DAY POLL

I think I remember that I missed veteran's day tribute movie last year. I've know I've seen quite a bit of the real world/true story war movies on the channel (not everything but a few!)

So this is more of a veterans/war movie poll - some highly requested, some newer, some older. Multiple Choice so may the best movie WIN!

Just watched Full Metal Jacket! Loved your reaction and I love your support for the military. Iโ€™m retired Air Force and gay. Love your support for both communities! ๐Ÿซก

So you're really just gonna give a synopsis of a movie on the list? Weird.

Full Metal Jacket is a wild ride. Plus it stars R Lee Ermy as the drill sergeant. And fun fact, he was an army drill sergeant before branching into acting. But yes all of these are quality but if I had to rank them 1) FMJ 2)TTRL 3) Platoon And now to address the elephant in the room....Apocalypse Now. The truth is, it really isnt a war film. Its actually an adaptation of Josepth Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" about a man working for a diamond mining company in, I think, the Belgian Congo( an area where many atrocities took place). Now, I forget the main characters name but, he basically gets sent there by the company to run the operation and ......goes batshit insane( snd its heavily implied the things he has seen and done on the company's behalf drove him mad). A ass a result of his mental breakdown he undermines the mining operation, "goes native", and sets himself up as a god to be worshipped by the indigenous tribal peoples of the Congo. Its bonkers! So, after dude goes crazy, the company sends another man to the mins to find out what happened to the first dude and figure our what the hell is going on wjth the mining operation. So yeah for me, AN is the best movie of the bunch, but its just not truly a war film....it uses the plot and characters of Heart of Darkness to make a statement on the Vietnam War. I do think it should be watched at some point just on its own merits but not necessarily for Veterans Day or Memorial Day. Anyway, long story short...Full Metal Jacket.
