EARLY ACCESS: Firefly Episodes 5 & 6

They also aired it on Friday night in a time slot referred to as the death slot. Named this because Fox has canceled 30 shows they aired in that time slot due to poor ratings. Even worse Firefly started it's run in September. Think about it. Here is a show that should have great appeal to teens, and you air it when most of them are at a Friday night high school football game. Not to mention Friday night also being one of the two major date nights for young people. Scheduling it in that time slot was either colossal stupidity or a deliberate act of sabotage by someone in charge of programing.

(first, Ashleigh, the opening theme song 'grows' on everyone.) Ep.5 Yes, Zack Efron, speaking Chinese. River's dance seemed to provide happiness, but Book being shot upset you only to learn the Shepard means something more interesting to the Alliance then one might expect. Luckily, Mal was the 'daddy' who came back for her and Simon. Now on to the first 'great' FF episode. Ep. 6 Between Mel's new wife and Jayne's rain stick, the stick may have been a bit better, but Vera proved to be the most valuable. Many brownouts claim Mrs. Reynolds as their favorite. I think when Saffron said "She swelled up inside for Mal" Ashleigh seemed to take 'special note' of this great episode too. To address your question about Fox... It's my understanding that Firefly fell victim to a villainous amount of back-door patriarchy and greed. As I understand it, the story goes that a woman executive who was to take over the programming at Fox green-lit Firefly based on her belief in Joss Wheaton and the concept he pitched. However, as she entered her new role, a good-ole bro, already at that level, emerges as a rival to challenge her authority, and caused doubt by labelling Firefly as a 'flyer pet project' that didn't 'fit' anywhere in the Fox lineup. Much worse, a more senior corporate exec became convinced that 'reality programs' (a concept being adopted by the other networks at the time) were so much cheaper to produce than scripted programs, yet were popular enough to command higher ad-buy revenue, that this senior exec didn't want any new series other than 'reality series' to be produced. I believe that the confrontation that ended Firefly, also cost the woman her new 'executive' job. Originally contracted and scheduled for a full 22-23 episode season, the call came down to STOP during the production of 'The Message' (FF folklore has it, the call came just before the funeral scene was shot) after only 14 episode were in the can. Firefly was OVER and FOX wasn't SHINY!

Remember just a couple of episodes ago where you were hoping for a kiss between those two?
