I think I'll ask for some advice on this subject later.
Xenos are created by hybridization of human traits with animal traits, but the procedure isn't exactly as create a chimera, as the animal DNA is modified extensively in order to give traits desired by the scientists.
they're sort of transgenic/artificially created beings, their species sometimes is picked more to keep basic skills or advantages, but sometimes it's kept mostly for size/looks.
but there's a point in which these modifications are controlled, despite being controlled in many aspects, left some traits and the performance of xenos vary a lot.
Some recessive genes are only present or expressed depending on how pure the animal DNA or raw it is.
Xenos tend to not have a different hair color (different to their main fur color), others doesn't even grow hair at all, specially in the most perfected/advanced Xeno versions.
Scientist tried to get rid of useless traits like different eyes/hair expression in their heads.
This isn't really important in the main Derideal series, but it's a small social issue in the Xeno Experiments Nova universe.
Social issues
It is considered more "pure" to not grow hair as humans do, as there's a social notion of having different hair color than their fur or even grow longer hair (as humans do) means they come from a more contaminated line of their base species.
Females tend to grow longer hair in general than males, even the ones with more pure genetic origin (Like Nova)
This doesn't affect their fluff fur or the length of the fur, it only matters for their capacity to grow hair in their heads.
It's not so uncommon for XENOS to express their hair genes, since it was a trait not refined during the times they were produced in grow-tanks, so most Xenos carry this potential in their DNA.
it's just a social issue of misconception, not really a "race issue" but it's something some families might take in consideration for choosing a partner. Higher hierarchy Xenos tend to care more about this subject than the common worker class.
it could be seen differently too, as being closer to humans is a more appreciated trait in the Guardian clan (thus some of them even kept their hair longer)
clans who take more pride in not expressing this kind of genes are the First clan and the Exi clan.
X-E-N TRIVIA:
Amy cutted her hair when she got together with Bandi, mostly because she felt a little ashamed of not being enough for Bandi, who's part of the most important families in the clan. Nobody said anything directly to hair, but she knew how things are perceived in the clan.
Species are determined by the mother, not every Xeno species are compatible for breeding. Rabbits and Mice do, so it wasn't desired for Bandi's family to lose their "rabbit" species if Bandi decided to stay with Amy despite public opinion.
DERIDEAL TRIVIA:
Aden can grow longer hair because this physical trait wasn't removed or modified, but he can only grow hair of his same fur color.
other strange thing about Aden, is that he "can't cry" or produce tears when sad (this was solved in the latest XENO created)
