I've always liked the "wish gone wrong" trope. Maybe a cute nerdy/gothy girl with a surprised look on her face standing with a genie character/wishing well/ monkey paw/etc. saying something along the lines of "Oh well you wished for Ashley to be attracted to you, turns out she's into girls..."
