WIP 50% Mei (December 2016's Batch)

Chubby meaty Mei bae. Gonna paint her good tomorrow.

I really like her thicc. I mean, there's this one (or many) artist here saying Mei is actually not any fat and drew her very thin and slender because he likes her like that. I really dislike the idea... I mean, if anyone would like Mei for her appearance, they should as well take into account that she is on the chubby side and that's her cuteness. I don't mind people disliking her because they prefer them girls slender, but to go as far as fixing the character's body type completely just to satisfy themselves is.... well it's not wrong, but when you express the thoughts out to public and try to convince the others to have the same idea, I get triggered.

Respect the origin of the character, or at least respect how the fandom portray her. If one wants to depict a chubby chick as a thin small girl, he might as well find another character to favor. That's my opinion, at least.

Thank you for the congrats, Setsunai :) Yeah like I explained to Inquisitor, final_agent, and Jake D above, tastes differ and I like many artists that drew Mei thin, slender, extremely overweight, and all as long as they made it look nice, but I just can't agree with some that says they don't like the original design so their depiction is better. It's disrespectful imo. Draw whatever they want I don't mind, but don't disrespect the original. I'm a bit extreme here, I know. The pest situation went better because the anti bug spray. I can't do the duct tape traps though since the root of problem came from the garbage room, and I can't lay down such trap in my room because I have a dog and she might eat them lying on the floor lol

Oh I'm not an SJW, complete opposite in fact, and yeah I wasn't meant for that word to be taken that serious (also the word triggered was originated by SJW? I didn't know that) I didn't say anyone would have to strict to the original design, which I also don't, but I just don't get the idea of some artist saying "Mei is thin and should better be like that" while drawing her and liking her. It's like they don't even like the Mei that came out in the first place. Why don't they find another character to like? I'm pretty sure there are tons of other fictional slender girls with glasses out there. This made me feel like they want to just jump on the bandwagon because OW is hella popular so they just pick a girl they're comfortable to draw in their comfort way. I felt bad. Though I don't mind at all seeing some artists drawing Mei or any other characters in their own unique ways like Doxy drawing Peach, or Mei herself (I really like ALL of Doxy's fanart redesigns and portrayal in fact), but they don't try to convince people to think that their version of characters are better than the original. That's just plain disrespectful imo. It's not wrong, but I dislike it, and I'm glad Doxy and many others don't do that, while some other artists did. You get the idea.

Hi Fuya, I’ve been away for a few days so I’am going to pack a few things into this post to catch up with your latest posts. First your Rika drawing looks superb I’am extremely pleased with it and I want to congratulate you for getting rank 1 on Pixiv R-18 Rankings, well deserved. :) In Regards to Mei I agree with “Inquisitor” that you got her chubbiness right but exaggerated her breasts somewhat which I don’t mind but brings me directly to your point of how different artists depict her, for instance as you mentioned in a more slender way. I don’t think it’s wrong or right to depict characters in a different way, I can understand your point of sticking closer to the original and do prefer that myself but in the end opinions and tastes differ and so do the iterations of artists. But I think even if an artist deviates from an original drawing, as long as the character is still easily recognizable it shows that this artist liked the original concept and just wanted to incorporate his own views and tastes in it, one doesn’t have to like it, just respect the difference in opinion, at least that’s how I see it. And I think it’s quite interesting to see different iterations of some characters, though not all are fitting which brings us back to difference in taste. xD And even if I’am almost a week late (Q_Q I missed so much), have you tried duct tape traps against your pest Problem. :? It appears to be a solution which doesn’t require poisoning yourself which is also cheap and practical. Here’s an example video of one such traps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T93YOc9_tg8

Please tell me you used the word "triggered" ironically, right? Seeing your a pretty chill dude I don't think your a SJW but you using that word kind of scares me. Also I do not disagree with you on her body type but I do disagree that an artist has to stick to the original design no mater what. That literally put restricts on art which is big no no for me. Update, I saw your other posts and you explaining yourself better but even with that I don't think either you or that other artist are 100% right on this topic. He can still like Mei even thoughe thinks she would look better thinner while your not wrong there is nothing wrong with her being a little chubby. I can see his points and yours. Finally I do think your version of her is the best, thicc as fuck but not so thicc it gets unappealing.

Slim thicc nice

I personally don't take that summer spray as a good reference though. It's more of a joke/funny side that they just threw in random sport thoughts. Other than that spray, everything else depicts her as a chubby. Blizzard themselves even said the Lunar New Year skin that made her look skinnier was an accident or a bug. It's more likely that Blizzard wanted to make her a thicc girl as ancient Chinese people prefer their girls, with big butts so that they won't have trouble much giving birth. It's what they believe. Trust me on this. I live in a country with Chinese related people everywhere. Old Chinese parents always ask if their sons' girlfriends have big butts cuz they prefer them that way. It's hilarious XD

May be I wasn't explaining clear enough. My bad here. That artist said Mei should have been drawn like that, as a thin girl. It would be better. As for me playing Overwatch, sprays have not been taken seriously at all that it's completely random at many points and many of them are even a spin-off versions of that character. I refer to her bodytype more from the drawn designs released since early. Also the note Mei left in the Antarctica lore saying the 28 ramen cups only had her survive for only 4 days is way more convincing that she's no where near the slender type lol. Yeah the point is that I personally don't shame anyone for drawing any character in their own way, but to say that a character should be like this or like that, or she's better in any certain way but the original, is a thing I'm not a big fan of. It feels like they don't even like that character in their original form in the first place.

Fuya

I like the thicc as well, but she isn't actually that chubby. She's not super slim either though. You can see what she looks like in her Summer Games spray. I think you've got her about right, though her boobs might be a tad too big.

Inquisitor

As much as I like chubby Mei and I respect you Fuya, you have one thing wrong. Anyone should be able to draw any character the way they want and should not be looked down on it. Incidentally, Mei has more evidence towards being on the thin side than chubby (her jacketless spray) so if you tell people to respect the character OR respect the way the fandom portrays her, you're basically contradicting yourself here. Please don't make this a war though, I believe people should be able to depict their fave character whichever way they like without being shamed for it is all.

final_agent

I absolutely agree revolverwing

MeccaCrisis

The thiccness you gave her is just right. It doesn't have to be on either extremes of body types all the time.

I think the way you've drawn her is perfect
